Z3 The fatal effects frequently following the use of Soothing Medicines, on account of the opium they all contain, should render parents extremely cautious how they administer such dangerous remedies to their children, who are dispropor- tionately susceptible of the influence of opium. The Pro. prietor of the celebrated STEDMAN'S TEETHING POWDERS feels it due to the public and himself to assure it that his Powders contain no opium, and are on that account the safest and best. for Children. Parents will readily see this for themselves, when they consider the number of inquests that are held in the year on children dying from the effects of soothing remedies. Testimonial, "Beachfield, Poulton le-Fylde, Lancashire. « gjr I have used your Teething Powders regularly for nearly'two years, and in 110 single instance have I found them to fail.' No words of mine can half express the con- fidence which I have in them, nor convey any idea of the great value and comfort which they have been to me and many other mothers to whom I have recommended them. "I remain, Sir, yours very faithfully, (Signed) "J. A. Stedman-Phillip's Tonic Drops, for Children suffering from either Rickets or Spinal Disease, Enlargement of, & Open Head Consumption and Wasting, Pallor of Countenance, Dropsy All Eruptions on Skin, Weak Eyes, avoiding light, Backwardness in Walking, Paralysis of Limbs, The Presence of Worms, General Debility, Enlargement of Glands, Epileptic Fits, Abscesses. Rickets and Curvature of the Spine and Limbs in children depend, in almost every case, upon a cert&.in state of the bones, which permits their bending under the weight of the body or action of the ribs in breathing; and this state of In order to better explain, it may oe mentioned mat me bones are made up, roughly speaking, of' two kinds of ma. terials—one an animal matter, which may be likened to gelatine, and the other a mineral matter, having its type in chalk. These two kinds of materials are blended together in healthy bone in certain nearly definite proportions; but, under unfavourable conditions of livelihood, such as obtain among the working classes in large towns, this healthy pro- portion becomes deranged, and the mineral or earthy in- gredients are in less than their usual amount. The object in nature of this mineral matter being to give firmness and strength to the bones, especially the long ones, the con- sequence of its deficiency is to permit of a yielding and bending in the bones, commensurate with that deficiency and the weight of the superimposed body. Now this softened condition of bones is termed Rickets, and is one which leads to curvature of the spine, to bandy legs and to pireon-breasts. Curvature in the female child leads to—sometimes impossible, at all times dIiticult-chlld. toeBandy.legs and knock-knees are a great disfigurement to both sexes; and pigeon-breasts narrow the room in which the lungs should have free play, and by that means bring on Consumption. Now, what are we to do to prevent or mitigate this rickety tendency in the child? If the child be young let it take" Stedman's Food for Children;" but if old enough to take a mixed diet, give plenty of good milk, good air and sunshine, and a liberal diet; but above all things let the child take- STEDMAN-PHILLIP'S "TONIC DROPS," which will give colour to the face, strengthen the bones, and prevent them bending, and, in one word, cure the patient. A course of these Drops prevent, and cure, when present, all those disagreeable and disfiguring eruptions that so often attack the child, rendering its life a misery, and its appear. ance forbidding. Weak eyes are made strong, the scrofulous habit eradicated, and that open condition of the head and enlargement of the glands of the neck indicative of great constitutional weak- ness, obviated, and cured (if existing) by taking these Drops; but, to do so, they must, in some instances, be continued for three months. If the Child be Cutting Teeth, one of Stedman's Teething Powders should be given occasionally. Price Is. lid., 2s. 3d. and 4s. 6d. A large bottle sent for 6s., P.O.O. ST coy OH gj 6 M 6 TINCTURE. WHOOPING COUGH, MEASLES, and BRONCHITIS IN CHILDREN. Stedman's Cough Tincture, FOR CHILDREN. The above diseases have a strong family likeness their seat is in the lungs; they are all attended' with Cough, and they are looked upon by the profession as having a near relationship one to the other. The one thing useful in each is to relax the mucous mem- brane of the lungs, so as to favour the escape and expectora- tion of the phlegm that accumulates in the air passages. While the child coughs freely and moistly no danger need be feared but when, in any of the above diseases, the cough becomes hard and dry, then no time should be lost in seeking But, as prevention is better than cure, all parents should fly at once, in Whooping Cough, Measles, or Bronchitis, to Stedman's Cough Tincture for Children. It is a really scientific remedy; will allay the fever, will loosen and keep moist the cough, and carry the little patient safely through what might otherwise have been a serious, if not fatal attack of any of the above diseases. S (PONTARDAWE) TV ORM LOZENGES, (Prepared from the original recipe,) Are hailed by every parent as one of the greatest bless- ing's ever sent by Him who pours His blessings upor mankind. They are purely vegetable, and innocent to the most delicate child, and yet so effective to the Worms, that they are soon cleared from the human body, and they have gained for themselves the name of THE PERFECT REMEDY for all kinds of Worms. We can never speak too well of the inventor of "Williams's (Pontardawe) Worm Lozenges," for he read the best books of the most eminent medical authors, but could find nothing there to answer the purpose he studied while others slept, and searched and analysed the extracts and other productions of the vegetable kingdom, especially those connected with the diseases of Children, while others spent their time in idle talk, and at last he discovered his coveted prize, a remedy purely vegetable, and innocent to the child, that would destroy the greatest cause of the diseases of children but, alas it cost him his life, he did not live long to enjoy the reputation of his great remedy, but died and left his discovery to the benefit of succeeding generations. [TESTIMONIAL.]—HAFOD, SWANSEA, JUNE 18, 1872.-Sir,-It is a pity that Williams's (Pontardawe) Worm Lozenges are not better known. When I lived in Church-lane, Wolverhampton, I tried all sorts of powders for my children, who suffered from worms, but never in my life did I see anything like your worm Lozenges. I gave them to my children, and my eldest child got rid of, I should think, one hundred worms of various sizes the other children got rid of a great number. I am sure the Staffordshire people would be very thankful if the Lozenges were made known to them. My eldest child had been unable to eat scarcely anything for days before I gave the Lozenges, but now he seems quite a different child. Yours truly, Mrs. Clarke.—Mr. Davies. Any of the following symptoms indicate Worms :— Variable appetite, foetid breath, acid eructation, pains in the stomach and head, grinding of teeth during sleep picking of the nose, paleness of the countenance, hardness and fulness of the belly, slimy stool, with occasional griping pains, more particularly about the naval short dry cough, and emaciaoion ot the body, often mistaken for decline, slow fever and irregular pulse, sometimes convulsive fits often causing sud- den death, and heat and itching about the anus, which often causes them to be mistaken for piles. CAUTION.-None are Genuine unless they bear the Inventor's Signature on the wrapper around each box. And the words "Williams's Worm Losenges in the government stamp. Full directions with each box.
