LONDON GRAIN TRADE REPORT.
LONDON GRAIN TRADE REPORT. [SPECIAL REPORT FROM, OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] LONDON, Friday.—The grain, influenced bv the colder weather. has been firmer in tone. At Mark-lane, this morning, an endeavour—which, however, proved unsuc- cessful- was made to advance the price of wheat, but notwithstanding the shortness of supplies and the wintry aspect of affairs, millers could not be induced to bid on higher terms, consequently but little business resulted, and the few sales effected were done at about the rates current on Monday last. The continued inanimation is solely due to the large supplies in stock, and for the moment no attention is paid to the unsatisfactory condi- tion of agricultural affairs since the commencement of the season. Our imports have exceeded those for the corresponding period last year by nearly six million cwts. During the week ending November 30th the quantity of British wheat disponed of at Mark-lane was 3,399 quar- ters, and the average price 483 Id barley, 833 quarters, average 37s 5d. Flour has been dull of sale. In spring corn not much has been doing, but values generally have been hardening, and otocke have been held. for an oJvanca.

ASSAULT BY IRISH CONSTABLES. On Thursday at Derry Petty-sessions two sub-con- stables, named Cullen and Irwin, were fined R5 and 22 respectively for assaulting Mr Thomas McConnell, a respectable Londonderry merchant. The policemen, while on duty, rang at prosecutor's door alleging that they had a sick man in charge, and when Mr McConnel came down, and said that one of the policemen was drunk, both men assaulted him. One caught him by the throat, and the other held his hands. After a severe struggle in ^hich he received dangerous injuries, Mr McConnell succeeded in shaking off his assailants, and re-entered his own house.
