The workings, which are carried on through levels, have been worked for about four years, the present output being equal to about 800 tons per week, which, with a small outlay, can be increased to over 200 tons per day within two months. The Royalties are of an exceptionally low figure, being only 6d per ton of 2,520 lbs, and 3d per ton for tire clay and building stone. The Property was taken in 1363 for a term of 60 years, of which nearly 40 years are still unexpired, owing to which the terms of the lease are exception- ally favourable. The Coal is well known in the market, and com- mands good pnces. The Seam now being worked is attained tlirruerh levels, and is water and gas free; a good rock roof over- lies the vhole of the seam. The Zinc and Copper Precipitating Department is 175 ft. long, and 128ft. wide, containing wood tanks of various dimensions, with wells, stone tanks, &c. two large sulphate liquor evaporating furnaces, with the liquor portion incased with wrought iron, alJout 20ft, long, 9ft. wide, 1ft. bin. deep; "ix smaller evaporating furnaces, of the "ame construction, having wrought iron pans, 12ft, lun, Oft. wide two lead calcmlllg furnaces, for agglomerating lead ores or l-ad materials before melting in blast furnaces. Foundations are ready for two more such furnaces. The Building of the Oxide of Zinc Department is ?17ft. long, 116ft. wide, and contains three furnaces about 30ft. long, 16ft. 6in. wide, each containing four distinct muffles, and one furnace partly b ilt 36 iron pyrites kilns or burners, four of which are not finished nitrate of soda oven olle lead-lined acid evaporating pan, wit-h gas flues, incased in wrough: -iron plates. The Ore Warehouseunderthe sulphuric acid chambers covers an a ea of about 10,560 square feet, is 120 feet long, and 88ft. wide. There are three sulphuric acid chambers, each 120ft. long, 25ft. wide, average height of 15ft. 6in" bnilt of 61b. lead to the square foot. The Main Chimney is 150) t. high from the floor line of the calcining furnace house, 10ft. in diameter inside from bottom to top, it is circular in form and built of fire brick all the furnaces and steam boiler fire-places are connected underground by means of large fire-brick fines to tile chimney. The boiler-huuse building is not complete, the walls on two sides not being built up to their proper height. It is 40ft. long by 46ft. wide, and contains three of Galloway and Sons, Manchester, New Patent Boilers, 26ft. by 7ft. diameter. The Building in the Lead Department is 36ft. long by 46ft. wide, containing four (Wilson and French's) latent lead fume cond8sers, with pipe connections, all on the ground, but only two of the condensers com- plete. The building in the Cupola Smelting House is 120ft. long by 30ft. wide, containing five square cupola fur- naces with cast iron castings at the bottom, with the hoods and flues supported on cast iron columns and wrought iroii girders. All these furnaces are fitted with water layers to the blast pi; es, and have all the water connections complete. All the buildings arc built of rubble masonry and red-brick quoins and arches, well arranged and con- nected together. The roofs of wood, with wrought iron fie bars and struts, covered in double Roman tiles, and supported on cast iron columns. The Offices and Laboratory cover an area of abo t 1,450 square feet, and comprise Manager's Office and Lavatory, general offices, dry and wet assay rooms, balance do., Ac.
