......______..___----. A Merciless…
A Merciless Judge. A merciless judge is Father Time. Before him the weak and the want- ing go to the wall. Only the truth can stand. For two years the fol- lowing statement from a Merthyr resident has withstood this sternest of all tests. Over Two Years Ago, Mr. Freder- ick Overbury, of 25 Ernest Street, Merthyr, said:—" No doubt it was a cold I had that brought on my kid- ney trouble. I had at times, dull, continuous pains across the small of my back and loins. Sometimes they were of a stab-like nature, and I found them very trying, seeing I had so much bending to do in my work as a gas stoker. Giddiness and head- aches, too, troubled me, and I had urinary trouble as well. Sometimes the water was very cloudy, and left a sediment. I had tried other medicines, but with little, if any good, then I com- menced with Doan's backache kidney pills. These I found to be the best medicine I had ever taken for kid- ney trouble. I think them splendid, and always recommend them. (Signed) Frederick Overbury." Over Two Years Later, Mr. Over- bury says:—" I still enjoy good t health I am pleased to say, and still have a high opinion of Doan's back- ache kidney pills. I have no hesita- tion whatever in advising their use for all kidney disorders." {'rice 2/9 a box, 6 boxes 13/9; of ail dealers, or from Foster McClellan Co.. 8 Wells St., Oxford St., Lon- don. W. --------Llandyssul at Abercynon.
Llandyssul at Abercynon. At Abercynon Police Court on Thursday, before Sir T. Marchant Williams (Stipendiary) and Mr. E. Morris, a young woman, now at Abercynon, summoned a man from Llandyssul to show cause, etc. The complainant asked for an ad- journment because she had failed to get her witnesses there. The defendant's solicitor said in that case he must ask for costs, be- cause he had come from Aberayron the previous day. Stipendiary (to complainant) x ou must pav about £ 3 in costs, because it is not the fault of the defendant that you cannot go on with the case. Complainant: I don't know how can he deny. paternity. We used to go to church together and all.ion- dreds have seen us. I can bring all the people of Llandyssul up as wit- nesses. Stipendiary: Very well, 1 11 ad journ this case for two months. Bring all the people of Llandyssul up on that day. (Laughter.)
--.---------_..-Foot Race…
Foot Race at Aberdare. Vn interesting foot race took place at the Old Rock Running Grounds on Thursday evening last between Mog Llovd, Aberdare. and Leo Williams, Aberdare. formerly of Pembroke Dock. The distance was 120 yards for the sum of £ 15 a side, Lloyd conceding Williams five yards. There was a good gathering, which included a number of well- known local sportsmen. The track was in a splendid condition. Mr J. Mackenzie was handicapper and starter, whilst the secretary was Mr Bert Smith. The first item was a boys' handicap race, in which some of the local youngsters took part. Three heats were run off, and the winners were:—1st, Owen Cooper; 2nd, Johnny Key; 3rd, Arthur Davies. jhis event was well contested, and the lads gave a splendid display. In the course of the race in the second heat the pro- gress of one of the competitors was marred by a dog obstructing the course, and this race was accordingly declared void. The race in the final was well worth seeing. An exciting struggle cul- minated in a win for Johnny Key, the well-known Aberaman youngster, with little Owen Cooper second, and Arthai Davies third. The principal event, viz., the mater between Lloyd and Williams. wa; followed with intense interest. Lloyr appeared to be the favourite, and a goo( sprint ended in his beating his man fully eight yards. Mr Mackenzie handicapping gave satisfaction ai Tound. The judges were Messrs Johi Rees, Royal Oak. and L. I. Deere, Con stitutional Club.
Order against Married Man.
Order against Married Man. Stipendiary and the Baby. Unusual Paternity Case from Aberdare. Alfred Venus, now of London, was summoned at Abercynon Police Court last Thursday by Annie Kemp- son, now of Aberdare. to show cause, etc. Mr. W. Kenhole appeared for com- plainant, and Mr. T. W. Griffiths for defendant. Mr. W. Kenshole said he could not understand what the defence was in this case. The child was born on May 17, 1911. The ptrties met each other in Hereford and the complain- ant walked out with defendant. She gave birth to the child at Aberdare. Some time later, a lady from Aber- dare, together with complainant, went to see defendant, who made an agreement to pay J640, but there were arrears on this sum still. Stipendiary: What defence is there to this ? Mr. T. W. Griffiths said it was true that the defendant had paid money to the girl under certain cir- cumstances. The defendant also ad- mitted that he had been with her, but the date did not correspond with the birth of the child. The com- plainant and her friend went to Lon- don to see defendant, who was a married man. He denied that he was the father of the child, but rather than be charged and exposed he consented to pay a sum of £40, an undertaking which he had been un- able to carry out. The Stipendiary said he would accept that undertaking as corrobor- ative evidence. Complainant then gave evidence, and said she had received £ 17 in in- stalments from defendant, By Mr. T. W. Griffiths: The child had been adopted by Mountain Ash 'people. The child was in Court, and the Stipendiary remarked (referring to a previous case heard that morning) We don't want a photograph by a Jew in this case. That child is the very image of this man (the defendant). (Laughter.) It may be an accident; but I don't see how you can main- tain that he is not the father. How are you going to get over the facts ? A child has been born and the man argues that the dates are not correct. But here is the baby—produced in court, and I have never seen such a striking likeness. Mr. T. W. Griffiths: I am afraid I cannot appreciate the likeness. Stipendiary: If this babv is not the defendant's child it must be his twin brother's child. (Laughter.) Mr. Griffiths read a letter written by complainant, with the address, 11 Bond Street, Aberdare, and asked the Bench, if they were going to make an award, to simply order the defendant to pav the balance of the 240. Stipendiary: Oh, no, it must be 3s. 6d. a week. Mr. Kenshole He is a tradesman, sir. and in business as a decorator and upholsterer. 1\fr. Griffiths replied that he was < working for his brother, and handed up papers to the Bench. The Stipendiary examined them, and his only comment thereon was: 5s. a week and costs.

A Simple Fall. Leads to Aberdare Man's Death. On Friday morning Mr R. J. Rhys, coroner, and a jury, enquired into the death of Thomas Thomas, 56 Wind Street, Aberdare. Ellen Thomas said she was the wife of Thomas Thomas, collier, who was 43 years of age. On Tuesday week he fell in the back yard, through slipping on one of the steps. The doctor came on the following day, and attended him up to his death. In reply to the Coroner, Mrs. Thomas said she helped him up when he fell. He prevented her fetching the doctor on the morning when he fell. That same evening he felt great pain and sent for the doctor, who could not however come that night, and promised to call the following day. He came the follow- ing day. She had lived in that house 20 years, and her husband six years. v Coroner.: So he knew the place well. Dr. J. B. Holmes (assistant to Dr. Cory) gave evidence next. The case was first attended to, he said, by Dr. Trevor Cory. He (witness) attend- ed the man from Friday, July 25th The deceased was then in a state of collapse and in great pain. The stomach was swollen, and he had evidently burst his bladder when full, by an awkward fall. The jury returned a verdict of 1 "Accidental death."
