INTERESTING WEDDING.—The marriage was solemnized, on Wednesday of last week, at St. John's Church, Higher Broughton, Manches- ter, of Mr. Robert Walker, of Higher Brough- ton, and Miss Lily Harrison, second daughter of Mr. John Harrison, tobacconist, of Station Road and Penrhyn Road, Colwyn Bay, in which town the bride is so well-known and respected. The bride was given away by her father. There were two bridesmaids, Miss Lilian Woodcock, of Higher Broughton; and the bride's young sis- ter, Miss Violet Harrison. Mr. Fletcher was the best man. After the wedding breakfast, at the house of Mr. Harrison, Clifton Lane, Higher Broughton, Mr. and Mrs. Walker departed to spend the honeymoon in the Isle of Man. There were many handsome presents, including cheques from the bride's father and brother and from Mr. and Mrs. J. Humphreys, of Bangor. At Colwyn "Bay, the best wishes of a wide circle of friends go out to the happy couple at the commencement of their wedded life. SOLDIER HEROES.—The members of the "G" and ".L" Companies (Colwyn Bay), 2nd V.B., R.W.F., were present in force, on Mon- day afternoon, at the unveiling, at Rhyl, of the monument erected as a memorial to six soldier- townsmen who fell in the South African War. The Princess Louise of Schleswig Holstein at- tend-ed the ceremony. which was performed by the Lord Lieutenant of Flintshire, Mr. H. R. Hughes, of Kinmel. The memorial stands upon one of the grass plots on the Promenade some 200 yards west of the pier, and consists of the figure: of a Welsh Fusilier in khaki, with the colonial hat, standing with rifle reversed. It is the work of Mr. H. Chatham, a local sculptor. The figure, Sft. 6in. in height, on its pedestal of granite 9ft. high, has rather a boyish appear- ance, but is otherwise admirably executed. Carv- ed upon the pedestal is an inscription recording the names of those to whom the, monument is raised, namely Colour-Sergeant Thomas Kings- ton, Royal Irish Fusiliers Private Luther Wil- liams. 1st Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers; Pri- vate James Foley, 3rd Battalion Royal Welsh fusiliers; and Privates Thomas Jones, Norman Roberts, and Hugh Wynne, of the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers, COLWYN BAY UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB.—Next Saturday will see the opening of another season for the Bayites. C., with the result that this well-known amateur combination will visit the Bayites' enclosure on Saturday and perform the opening ceremony. The Leakites are not quite strangers to Colwyn Bay, as they have met the Bayites on a previous occasion, last Good Fri- day, when the seasiders just succeeded in win- ning. A good game is anticipated, and the Bayites have selected the following eleven to do justice for them :-Goal, C. Croyden backs, J. Owen and Vernon Jones; halves, O. E. Wil- liams, E. Griffiths and W.
