"'.-Hippodrome, Tonypandy.
Hippodrome, Tonypandy. A treat to all music-lovers is provided by Mr. Ernest O. Gittin's Condensed Opera Company, which appears with great success in tabloid versions of well- known operas. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, The Daughter of the Regiment" was presented, and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings The Bohemian Girl" will occupy the stage. These operas are extremely well "put on, and the singing of the various artistes, who have all had large experi- ence with the Carl Rosa Opera Company, leaves nothing to be desired. The Three Langforda are clever vocalists and expert terrific dancers, and they come in for a goodly share of the honours of the even- ing. arr and Koonev, the popular somedianjg in scarlet, produce very smart cross-talk and some very original jokes; .whilst "the Walonels, comedy triple hori- zontal bar artistes, who appear in the place of Milton and Horton, perform astounding feats of strength and agility astounding feats of strength and agility on the horizontal bars. Mr. Bert Wil- liams, the North Wales elocutionist,, appears with no little success in his reci- tation. The Fighting Parson." The Galley Slave is the title of a very interesting series of pictures, and The Troubles of a Smoker depicts the troubles which may await those who woo My Lady Nicotine." In the ordinary course of events the Hippodrome was to have been closed down at the end of this week, but we are authorised by Mr. Will Stone to state that arrangements have been made which will enable him to continue to cater for his patrons at the Hippodrome as usual.
Empire, Tonypandy.
Empire, Tonypandy. The premier attraction here this week is the Sisters McCarte, who appear in their Japanese scena, The Land of the Lotus." In this scena the Sisters McCarte gave a very pretty and clever performance on the tight and slack wire. The scenery and dresses may be character- d, ised as a thing of beauty delighting the eye, whilst the accompanying music en- chants the ear. Palles and Cuissick, the originals, provoke a tremendous amount of mirth bv means of their great comedy act, The Funny Side of Life." Their business iis really comical, which concludes with a burlesque boxing act. Tiny Arnold is a little lady comedienne whose songs go with a swing. One of this type is her song, "Smile, Smile, Smile." Her dancing I was both smart and refined. Cooney, who deputises for Sandon, brings down the house with his clever clog dancing; whilst Perrier, the new star ventriloquist, pro- vides something totally different from the old stereotyped ventriloquial act. JaÐk 1 Warman, comedian; and Tony Freedman, light comedian, complete the strong variety portion of the programme. Redeemed," an intense dramatic episode, is successfully depicted on the Empiroscope, which is always moving." The Empire Orchestra, under the baton of Mr. Arthur E. Breakwell, render Raymond," overture (Thomas), and a selection from Gounod's "Faust,"
Palace, Porth.
Palace, Porth. A splendid programme is being sub mitted at the Palace this week, the Great Albas, king of the tight wire performers, topping the bill. Albas contributes a very unique performance, exhibiting mar- vellous feats of equilibrism and a most astonishing elide from the audience with his head upon the wire. His skill evokes rounds of applause. The King's College Boys, in a scena, The Students' Con- cert," are exceptionally good singers; vocalists with excellent songs and fine style, and capable musicians, they receive genuine approbation. So also does Speed- well, the wizard painter. This artist's pictures are remarkably well executed, both the comic and genuine. The pecu- liarity of the comic excites roars of laughter, while the latter merits the appreciation accorded. Lily Shaw (the toy Vesta Tilley) is an amazing little artiste, possessing great talent, vocal and artistic, and makes quite an impression. Edna Barrett, vocalist and dancer, is also accorded loud applause. Hyram Travers, London character comedian, with his songs, Can't wear a collar and a tie and The Prairie King," is re- sponsible for loud applause. The Maningos, equilibrists, are also very clever and merit the approval given them. The pictures on the Bioscope are, as usual, of the best, both highly interesting and entertaining.

Tivoli, Pentre.
Tivoli, Pentre. The proprietor, Mr. Stone, will receive the congratulations of numerous patrons this week upon the excellent entertain- ment provided at the Tivoli. There is quality unsurpassed, and there is also a greater quantity than usual. The pro- gramme is exceptionally long and varied. The marvellous success of Carlton in various halls is repeated. This extra- ordinary card manipulator must be one of the highest in the. profession—as sleight-of-hand artiste he has few equals. His stage manner of amusing the people is unique; original, and brings him addi- tional success. He even makes fun of his own angular proportions—in fact, he exaggerates them. His sensational illusion, The Mysterious Cross," will arouse much puzzling of brains, as the best solution by Friday night will receive a zC.5 prize. The first change of a lady for a gentleman, each one identically tied to a wooden cross, is -positively wonder- ful the reappearance of the former proves that there are two distinct per- sons. We are promised an explanation of the trick late in the week. The cele- brated dramatic sketch, The Colleen Bawn," is admirable in acting and effects. The plot of this dramatic sketch centres around a poor Irish girl who is secretly married to the heir of a large estate, which happens to be heavily mortgaged. To relieve his mother's anxiety, a mar- riage with an heiress is essential; the solution of the difficult problem leads to final scene, in which the stage is con- verted into a lake of real water the girl is thrown into the water by her husband's servant to end the trouble, but is res- cued by her husband. The six characters are excellent. There are other turns which are well worth witnessing. Allsopp and Beckwith present an amusing comedy act, their Marathon walking dog named Pickles is very well trained. Percy Wripht as a light comedian, and Newman and Latimer. hnrlasque aH-Lsies, am alo successful. The pictures are well up to high standard set by Mr. Stone, the ones entitled Lady Detective 11 and Cure for Cowardice being very good.
Opera House, Treherbert.
Opera House, Treherbert. The great many who have already visited the above popular house of amuse- ment this week have enjoyed what is pro- bably the best entertainment given there since it was converted into a Picture Palace, with two rformanceB nightly. The entertainments have been gradually improving, and this week an exceptionally high standard of merit has been attained. The programme for this week is excel- lent it cannot be surpassed. Good audi- ences are attracted each evening, and the delight of the people is enthusiastically expressed. The pictures, if anything, are better than ever, for the subjects this week are all more or less exciting and intensely interesting. During the former part of the week, the pictures, Indian Traitor" and Bull Fight in Oran," were shown. These two pictures were wonderful examples of the perfection of Poole's animated pictures, and were re- ceived with vociferous applause by the people. Other fine tragic pictures were: —" The Vendetta," On and Off the Stage," and" An Audacious Escape." Convulsions of mirth were produced by the pictures, A Pleasant (?) Walk" and <! Mrs, Jones' Birthday." There was an entire change of pictures on Thursday, the pictures for the remainder of the week being:—"Battleships in Action," "Burglar in the Trunk." "Two Orderlied," Peter's Patent Painter," Airship Destroyer," "Mountbank's Son," "Nero," and Lady Boneeetter." The variety turns, too, are first-rate this week. Wun Hi Lung, the great Chinese magician and mystifier, appears at each, performance with the, best of new tricks, legerdemain, and illusions. There is also the special and emrei-isive eiigagemeiit of Mdlle. Hengleur and her troupe of performing Russian poodles and leaping dogs. This is a really wonderful turn. All the dogs, large and small alike, display an almost human intelligence. At the given word of command, acrobatic feats of a most difficult character are performed by these clever dogs. The leaping dogs are very fine, and the audience was always enthu- siastic in its appreciation.

Rinking Notes.
Rinking Notes. Several changes and improvements have been made at the Pavilion Skating Rink, T'onypandy, and it is with great pleasure that we notice Mr. F. J. Studd, late of Pentre, is acting as manager pro tern. Mr. Studd has a very important engage- ment to fulfil elsewhere in a few weeks' time, which prevents him becoming per- manent manager. Nevertheless, Mr. Studd is rapidly becoming a favourite in Pandy as he was in Pentre, and during his short sojourn with us he will introduce many novelties. Mr. A. H. Wilson, late of the American Roller Rink, Clifton, has been appointed as floor manager, and by his tactful and unostentatious manner, bids fair to also become a great favourite with Pavilion patrons. The prices previously charged at the Pavilion have been somewhat revised, but all particulars regarding same will be found in our advertising columns. The alluring pastime of roller skating continues to draw large numbers to the Olympia Rink. Pentre, The evening competitions are very interesting and partly amusing. The live pig race on Saturday evening was very exciting, the winner being Mr. Tom Jones, Pleasant View. This week, there is another series of original competitions, which are attract- ing skaters throughout the Valley.
