PENMAENMAWR.
PENMAENMAWR. TERRITORIAL ASSOCIATION. At the meeting of the Carnarvonshire County Council at Llandudno, on Thursday, Dr. J. R. Williams, Ardre, was unanimously appointed to represent the County Council on the Carnarvonshire Territorial Force Association. LADS' CLUB.—On Saturday the members of the Shaftesbury Club for street lads and work- ing boys, of Birkenhead, pitched their camp on Mr. Foulkes' field on the Conway-road. There are about 170 boys under canvas, and they are spending an excellent time amongst the beautiful surroundings. The boys appear to be bent on living up to the good name which they have secured during the four successive years that they have visited Penmaenmawr. There were a good number of visitors at the Sunday services in the camp. Visitor's day is this (Thursday) afternoon, and a hearty invitation is extended the boys' concert on Friday night next, after 8 p.m. The camp will break up on Saturday next. PROMENADE LIGHTING. The Local Government Board have sanctioned, without a local inquiry, the application of the Council for power to borrow C556 for the purpose of in- stalling the system of electric light on the promenade. The current is to be purchased from Messrs. Darbishires' quarries. One of the main grounds upon which the Local Govern- ment Board dispensed with the usual inquiry was that the Council, when they some 10 years ago decided to build a sea wall and promenade, made plans, the whole of which would have cost £ 17,000 to execute, whereas the work which in fact they carried out cost only ^11,300, so that the Council have still a large margin of borrow- ing powers. It is understood that the work will be proceeded with as expeditiously as possible. Yesterday (Wednesday) a special meeting of the Council in Committee was held to consider the scheme of electric lighting, and decided to pro- ceed with work at the earliest possible moment. DEATH.—The death took place at Denbigh on Sunday of Mr. John Roberts, Islwyn, Pen- maenan, at the age of 59 years. He leaves a widow and three children. The funeral (a private one) takes place to-day (Thursday). THE SEASON.—With the advent of the fine weather, visitors are commencing to pour into the village, and the scenes on the beach and promenade each morning are very animated. This week is about the best of the season so far. Boating and bathing are extremely popular, and the beautiful walks in the surrounding districts are well patronised. It is expected that there will be a very large influx of visitors during the week end. THE GOLF LINKS.—The new golf links are very popular with the visitors, large numbers of whom are to be seen daily enjoying the salubrious air of the neighbourhood. BIBLE READINGS.—The Bible Readings in connection with the Church, which are held each Wednesday morning during July, August and September, have commenced, and have al- ready become popular. ST. SEIRIOL'S CHURCH.—According to the Parish Magazine the statement of accounts of St. Seiriol's Church for the year ended 3ist March last shows receipts amounting to £ 571 3s. ixd., included in which was Z389 19s. in offertories and -f 134 8s. 6d. in respect of the Clergy Fund. The expenses amounted to Z570 os. iod., including Z474 12S. 7d. in respect of stipends, thus leaving a balance in hand of £ 1 3s. id. The accounts were audited by Mr. Owen Rowland, N. and P. Bank. GRAIGLWYD SALE.—There has been an un- precedented run on the catalogues of this most important sale, which will open to-day (Thurs- day). It is expected that on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday there will be an unusually large attendance of buyers.

ORGAN RECITAL.—Last evening (Wednes- day) Mr. Llewellyn Jones, F.R.C.O., gave a splendid organ recital at Christ Church, which was attended by a good number of visitors. A STARTLED HORSE.—On Monday morn- ing, as the son of Mr. George, coal merchant, was going his rounds with his coal cart, the animal was startled in Llanerch-road, by a woman's white apron flying about. The atten- dant held on to the animal, but was thrown, and severely injured his arm. Some onlookers rendered assistance. MODEL YACHTING.—Owing to there being insufficient breeze, the usual races in connection with the Model Yacht Club on Friday night were abandoned, and those who turned up in- augurated a number of races amongst them- selves. The members of the Liverpool and Wirral Model Yacht Club have decided to visit Llanfairfechan on August Bank Holiday. A DIFFICULTY SOLVED.—At the last meeting of the local Council, there was con- siderable discussion as to what should be done with a number of dilapidated bathing vans, which constituted an eyesore on the beach. The Council were in a difficulty as to what should be done with them, and several of the members are highly pleased to learn since that Mr. Rice Hughes has purchased them from the owner, and that he intends removing them during the course of this week. BICYCLE ACCIDENT.—On Sunday night, an old gentleman named Thomas Roberts, liv- ing at Brook Bank, Valley-road, was returning from the service at Gerizim Chapel. There were a large number of people about. A cyclist was making his way to Bangor, and a pedestrian shouted to the old man to keep a look out. The old man suddenly moved in front of the bicycle, and was thrown several yards. The cyclist was also thrown from his machine. Roberts was severely shaken, and some of the pedestrians re- quested the name and address of the cyclist, which he refused to give. The police were in- formed, and a telephone message sent to Bangor, where the cyclist was met by a con- stable and readily gave his name and address. The next day he came down to Llanfairfechan to see the old man, and came to a satisfactory settlement with him.
