SOUTH WALES FINANCE (Cardiff account day, Nov. 26th). FRIDAY, November 13th, 1896. Despite the fact that a somewhat quiet Mid irregular tendency has pervaded the London market, a fair amount of business Aas been done locally considering the general stricture which prevails at the moment. Rhymney Ordinary Stock was done at 270, which is an improvement of one point on last business, and accordingly the quotation has been raised 1%, to 270. This appreciation In value is doubtless due to rumours cgarding the advantageous position Rhym- ney will occupy in forthcoming dock and railway schemes. Barry shipments have oeen very heavy again this week, and as a result more attention is being directed to the stocks. The Deferred was done at 151, the old price, a small lot of the 4 per Cent. Preference at 141%, and later on at 142. Taff Ordinary was also done at 8354, the mean price. Spillers and Bakers' Ordinaries furnished the feature of the market, however. A very fair amount of business was done at the opening at 151\, In the afternoon the price improved to 15%, it which figure dealings were numerous, the market closing fairly firm. Lloyds Banks were done at 25 an advance of Tredegar Iron and Coal A Shares at B2 13s 1 %d, being 1-32 above the mean quotation Cathays Steam Laundry Shares at 13 and Stranaghan and Stephens's Ordinary at 15s, top price. There has been another sharp drop in Hill's Dry Docks, viz., 1, to 7, The Mining Market has been quiet. Chartereds were done at 2%, De Beers at 29. and Chaffers at 3s 6d. Messrs Tregerthen Dunn and Co. con- ducted their monthly sale of steamship shares at the Exchange, Cardiff, this (Friday) afternoon. There was a large attendance, but the prices were not quite so good as on the last occasion, when the freight boom was in full swing. At the same time the shares offered were not such good value. The following lots were dis- posed of :-Two jB240 fully-paid shares in the Beignon Steamship Company, Limited, at L44 each one £ 110 fully-paid share in the Glamorganshire Steamship Company (s.s. Peterstone), at j372 10s one sixty- fourth share in the Melrose Abbey at B42 10s thirty-two sixty-fourth shares in the trow Sunbeam, of Gloucester, at 2125, the purchaser taking over the debt two f,50 shares in the Anthony Radcliffe at JE58 each and one f,100 share in the South Cambria at S59.

LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE. LONDON, Friday. There is nothing new as regards money, the supply of which is only moderate, not- withstanding the recent distribution of Japanese funds. More capital would appear to be going into the provinces. Loans were in requesc, and short fixtures were charged 3% to 4 per cent. Discounts were active, not many bills being available. Three months' Bank bills were steady at 3% to 3% per cent. four months, 3% to 3% six months, 3%. Trade bills, 3% to 4 per cent. Paris Cheque Exchange is 25-24. Stock Exchange Markets have remained qniet. Changes have been irregular. Consols were firm, but Home Railways weak at times, on fears of labour troubles. American Railways rather stronger, on New York support. Foreign Bonds very quiet. Mines rather steadier. Consols closed at IlOYs to 110% for de- livery, and 110/g to llOxe for account. There was nothing of interest in the Foreign Bond Market, and business was quiet. The tendency was rather undecided. Spanish fell Y\. Italian rose Ys, Turks were dull, but Egyptian steady. Other International Stocks were more or less neglected. Argentines quiet Gold Pre- mium bas risen to 184% Brazilian rose Peruvian were weak and Debentures lower. Home Railways were dull, and fears of labour troubles weakened all the good stocks. The actual business doing was very moderate. Great Eastern steady. As regards Southern lines Brighton was better. South Eastern A unaltered. Chathams were weak, Underground lines dull. Scotch Stocks flat. In the American Railway Market there has been a want of animation, but a rather better tone was prevalent, owing mainly to New York support. Changes were of no special importance. Atchison rose do. Preference, Y2 Milwaukees, Denvers, Readings, Union Pacifics, Wabash Preference, 34- Erie fell Denver Preference and Louisvilles un- altered. „ „ Canadian Railways firm. Most Grand Trunk issues rose Canadian Pacifio Shares better. Foreign Railways were very quiet. Mexican opened firmly, but reacted later. Nitrate Market was quiet, without any change of importance. Miscellaneous Securities: — Imperial Ottoman Bank rose Ys, Breweries quiet Allsopps' Preference rose 1. Reid's Prefer- ence fell 1. Naval Construction up, at 3%. Gaslight and Coke A and Imperial Continental Gas rose 2. Trusts were irregular. South Africans are firmer on the absence of any further allusion to the Boer claim on the Chartered Company and the announcement that the Transvaal Chambers will allow the working of the mines on Sundays. West Australians were dull. Amongst South Africans Chartered rose Ys, and Goldfields Deferred, Bar- nato Mines were 3-32 up. Diamond issues were firm. De Beers improved and Jagersfontein, 5-6. In GolcLShares, except for a rise of to 23% in Rand Mines, movements were slight. Consolidated Deep Level and Goldfields Deep recovered East Rand h up. Bantjes, Crown Reefs, Henry Nourse, Mays, Meyer and Charlton, and New Primrose were all rather better. Nigel and French Rand fell and Buffels- doorn, Jumpers, Transvaal Gold, and a few others 5*8 to Ys, West Australians generally dull, and movements slight. Colonial Goldfields rose to rlr premium on favourable advices respecting the property. Ramage Syndicate advanced to 14. Brownhill fell Lake View Consols were selling at 61%. Hampton Plains were flat at 3%, and Golden Crowns were down at 1 Other changes were slight. Moran Gold Shares were weaker. Mysore fell ye, Gold Field rose 6d, Champion Reefs were h lower, and Coromandcl Copper Shares quiet. Amongst Miscellaneous De Lamar fell 6d and Golden Feather £ e. The following changes took place in South African Mines :—Rise—Consolidated Deep Level, 34 Goldfields Deep, 34 Henry, Nourse, 34 Rand Mines, Chartereds, Ys Goldfields Deferred, De Beers, Ys Jaggersfontein, & Barnato Consoli- dated, 3-32. Fall—Angelo, French Rand, 34 i Nigel, 34 North Randfontein, Goldfields of Lydenburg, At the Bank 20,000 sovs. were withdrawn for Alexandria. Silver remains quiet. There is reason to believe that this week's shipments will work out at a higher figure than for many weeks past. Some of the Monmouthshire collieries are reported to be fairly busy just now. The ketch Cyril, of Falmouth, from Spain, with nuts, is ashore on Knock Sand*. The British steamer Isle of Kent, from the Danube, is ashore in the river Scheldt. Assistance sent. The steamer Larry Bane, of Glasgow, from Troon for Dundalk, with coals is ashore in the outer hirbour at Dundalk. The steamer Peveii!, of Glasgow, has stranded at Ullapool, Loch Broom, but will float at high water. A Scarborough telegiara states that the steamer Niagara, of Leith, stranded on the rocks near Burniston, but was assisted off and proceeded north. A Strangford telegram states that the brigantine Huntress, of Belfast, while lying at Killyleagh Quay, took Are in her cabin. The cabin was completely gutted, and the beams of the deck overhead were burnt. The fire has been extinguished. Lloyd's agent at Algiers telegraphs from Bizerte as follows e British steamer Yarrawanga, from Australia for London, has last propeller half a mile off Cape Negro, west of Cape Derret. She h-ts anchored and a tug and a torpedo steamer have gone t her assistance. The steamer Caradoc, of North Shields, for Rotter- dam, in proceeding down the river Thames, grounded off Cuckolds Point, but will probably float at high water. A Montrose telegram states that the Neptune sustained damage through grounding in the Canal. She is now afloat and must discharge. The salvage steamer sent to the Norwegian) steamer Cupella, ashore at Spickeioog, was unable to render any assistance. The Capella will probably be a total loss. The crew and passengers were saved. The British steamer North Cambria, from Newport News for Aarhuus. has put into St. Michael's with nigh pressure cylinder cover broken. The British steamer Wiltowdene, from New York for Plymouth, has put into Fayal with cargo shifted and short of coal. The ship's stores and fixtures had been burnt as iuel. She had a fearful passage.
