CARMARTHEN. The annual Christmas Show, under the direction of the Carmarthenshire Agricultural Society, was held at the Provision Market, Carmarthen, on Wednesday. With the exception of the weather (which was not of the brightest) everything was in favour of the show. The entry list was the heaviest yet known at this show, being an increase of 100 or so on last year's, and numbering close on 600. This increase is mainly due to the unremit- ting efforts of the secretary, Mr D H Thomas, Derllys Court, who has his heart and soul in the work, a fact the society has for some time recognised. The arrangements were also well organised by the stewards, thus afford- ing every facility to the judges to exe- cute their task expeditiously. Too much cannot be said of the uninter- rupted manner in which the proceedings were conducted on Wednesday. The judges were :—Fat Stock—Mr A Puddicombe, Swansea; and Mr R Falconer, Mynyddfich, Ammanford. Live Poultry and Pigeons-Mr M Leno, Hemel, Hampstead. Dogs—Mr Free- man Lloyd, London. Cage Birds- Mr J H Spurry, Carmarthen. Dead Poultry Mr C Finch, Carmarthen. Dairy Produce—Mr F Weate, St. Clears Butter Factory. Roots Mr Footman, Hafodwen; Mr Davies, Typicca; and Mr Davies, Llanybri. The Stewards, who worked well, were: General Steward—Mr D Prosser. Fat Cattle, Sheep, and Pigs Messrs J W Harries and D Prosser. Live Poultry—Messrs E Lewis, D Warren Lewis, W V Howell-Thomas, C E Davies, Talbot Norton, J F Rees, ancl Percy Thomas. Pigeons-Messrs E W Francis and J Olive. Dogs—Messrs H Coysh and J Davies. Dead Poultry and Dairy Produce—Mr W W Prosser. Green Crops-Mr B Harries. The hon. Auctioneer, was Mr John Francis, and the Hon. Veterinary Inspector, Mr J F Rees, Carmarthen. The fat stock were a prime lot in tip- top condition. Mr Thomas, Towyn's fat beast, in the open class, was in bettet condition for the butcher than Viscount Emlyn's exhibits, and won on that account. But the best beast in the whole show was the first prize ox in the butchers' class, owned by Messrs Henry Lewis and Henry Daniels. It was a cross between a Shorthorn and Hereford, and was never fitter for the knife. At Cowbridge show it took 1st in the class for steers, and was third best in the show-yard. The black breed were nothing extraordinary, either in number or quality. The fat pig class was dominated by Mr John Lloyd, butcher, Carmarthen. His pigs exhibited were splendid speci- j mens of the porcine breed. The judge said he never before saw such a grand show of pigs. Mr Lloyd's Berkshires (11 months three weeks) took 1st and 2nd easily. The live poultry classes, and also those for pigeons and cage birds were very largely patronised, and the exhibits were of exceptionally good quality, taken as a whole. This show is always successful in filling these classes. The prize trussed turkey-owned this year again by Mr Bath—was a magnificent bird, and had been cleverly trussed. It weighed 321bs. There was sufficient meat on it to feed all the inmates at the Workhouse. Mr J W Harries' trussed geese, Mr E Lewis' trussed pair of fowls, and Mrs H L Davies's fat ducks are also worthy of 'special mention. Amongst the spectators we noticed Professor Parry of the agricultural department of the University College. Aberystwyth, and he was deeply interested in the splendid specimens of green crops shown. The following is the prize list :— CATTLE. Fat beast of any breed or age. 1, Mr J R Thomas, Towyn, Burry Port 2 and 3, Viscount Emlyn, Golden Grove. NARBERTH. Narberth at its best is an unusually quiet place, but, notwithstanding the torrents of rain which fell on Tuesday morning, there was an excellent attendance to look over ø. capital entry of the different varieties of sporting and non-sporting dogs, for this department is the leading feature of the exhibition in this Pembrokeshire town. The quality at Narberth was not up to the previous years save in sheep dogs, and bere the local kennel-Dr Lock's, of Tenby-was well represented. This gentleman exhibits some youngsters of his own breeding which have been superbly walked in the district. The greyhounds were good, but there have been larger entries at this fixture, and igain local dogs were placed in the first and second positions. These were the best sections in the show, but a passing notice should be given to the variety section, where here were all sorts of specimens from all Oftcharka Russian sheepdog to a King Charles spaniel. The fancy was exceedingly well represented, and amongst the breeders )f Wales and England we noticed Dr and Mrs Lock, D Reynolds, J DaviejS Ned Roberts, H Rees, Williams, W V II rhomas, J Cole, Fred Lewis, Freeman Lloyd, Walter Birch, Dai Morgan, L Pugh, Charles Griffiths, J Harries, F Lewis, Jack Davies (Carmarthen), D Thomas, A Roblin, A Hall, and several other?. In setters Mr Rees won easily with a good Belton in "Blue Sky," the second going t, m Irish full of quality in Andromache. 'Tenby Gem" had it all her own way 111 retrievers, and she was lucky to have aotbing of great merit behind her, for she was absurdly fat. Greyhounds were g°°^' The winner Scio May," i9 a good bl«ck» nice in shape and make, and the same can he said of" Green Croft Queen," nice JI1 quality. Hero she is superior to the w inner, tad "Pembrokeshire Gem" a brindle, 1 better than either in that respect. Perhap she is not robuut enough for son,i judges, but she undoubtedly had as S°°. shape about her on Tuesday as any one j he ring. Mr Fred W Lewis won easily 111 spaniels over 281bs, and "Haverford EnchaD* tress" were it not for her forelegs, con bold all her own in the best of company. IIer brother Haverford Absolute cae second. Mr W T Jones, of Neatb, won in small spaniels with an unnamed one, whic is to be regretted, for she was the bes spaniel in the show. Mr W V H Thotn bad it all his own way in smooth with "Compton Swell," aud the w,rj3 bairs were more numerous, Mr Fred Le"(, winning with Belmount Bramble. Haverford Spot being second for Mr Cole. "Red Palm" the winner of the Welsh terriers, had all its work cut out to beat "Bolt." Sheep dogs were distinct J good, as before remarked. Messrs Bitch 9 (Liverpool) representative could be in?*jl robust and strong. Messrs Birch won Sefton G<*m in smooths, Kit being second. The ring were disgraceful, and Mr Rapier, of Sheffield, who made the awar > must have been pleased when his duties w over.
