BONTDDU.
BONTDDU. PROTEST AGAINST DISESTABLISH- MENT.—At a meeting of the parishioners of Bontddu, on Monday evening, the following re- solution was unanimously passed "That we, the Churchpeople of the parish of Bontddu, are of opinion that to disendow the Church or any portion of it would be rank sacrilege and robbery, and a cruel blow to the religious life of the nation, for which no honest justification oulc at any time be found, much less now when the Church is doing a great work for the people and doing it increasingly well. The clesire thus to cripple the venerable Church of our fathers obviously springs not from any love of abstract justice, nor any sense of real unfairness, but from motives mean, shortsighted and irreligious, a secular spirit tending to ungodliness."

TO ADVERTISE RHYL. At the opening ci the meeting, the Chairman drew attention to the efforts A-hK-h were b«ii€ jiiaide in coiijuiioioai with tlie L. and C^o., to iwivertfise Rliyl at the Louden I^xiiybi tion. They Vvamted the suin of £ 75 for the pux- pose of securing a panoramic yiew or Rhyl, and 6H the Clerk had issued an appeal he hoped there would be a liberal response so that Rhyl would not be left out in the cokI. lIe consider- ed the scheme an excellent one, wiid he com- me,n-de.d it to residents. A MISTAKE SOMEWHERE- Mr F. Wallis called attention to the proposal to increase the rent of a wire worker on the Proaneaiade from E10 to E30, a-nd said the Couai- I ,,re ii-iot,-t uijavpkmable. The cil's pr?Glx)L-.als w Council originally graiivted the site at £ 5; then they granted the man permission to erect a per- maneot staaid, and although lie a-pphed last Sep- tember for a renewal of the permit he only received an acknowledgment of his letter. Now when the season was openiing' he was told, that lie had either to pay E30 or clear out. It was unfair to let the main come to Rhyl and be .3rpeciaJIv vz his rent i-nel. with sucdi a pxol, osaj 'e. had been raised to L10. He proposed that the rent be only increased by' E5. Mr Tilby suggested that it was a matter for a committee, and on his suggestion it was left to a small conlinittee with power to act- THE DOGS' ENTERTAINMENT. Objection had been taken by some residents on the front to tho site for the performing dogs, ,<r in r, -W i-:?tit-lotis WeTe Mnt Jeetang the i;oioc- tion of another spot. It was poiiilted out that there was no objection to t.he site last year by another entertainer, but Mr Whitley, said that there was a gopoat diffe- rence in the nature of tlie ehtertajininent. Mr J. W. Jones asked iif the objection was that the preRent occupier of the site was a local man, white the person who it before, was a strangfer. Several Couuic.i'llors denied this, and it was decided to leave the matter With the Road Committee to deal with. FOR "NON-STICKERS." Mr Hill asked why certain seats had been re- moved from the front, and being told that they were being painted, urged that this work be done before the season commenced, adding llom&y &at's Were t,hat last Bank va-riiiibed, a,-id that it vvao iin?safe for anycne tD -,it down on them unless LhAi were "•noa-stickere" (laugh- ter). THE NEW, MARINE LAKE PROPOSAL. It was reported that the Road Committee had again cosiead-csred tihe plan for the proposed Marine Lake on the seafront, which is to be carried out by a private syndicate, and it was recommended that the Council apparaved the scheme, subject to terms borng agreed upon and all necessary consents obtained, the site sug- gested by the committee being along the front of the new gardens. Mr Hill said he hoped the Council would have the plans before them, so that ail members could consider them before they were passed. Mr Ellis assured Mr Hill that there was nothing bindimg so far. Mr Clews said he did not think the minutes conveyed the correct- idea as to the site. It -cl that the lake ghct,,14 be iva,s -?-t first s-?,4g-este situa-t-e.d more to t..ic front, btiit the conlrn, f 1 ttke t'l,t that they should ;t back in I'LIIC with the concrete wall of the gardens, allowing the lake to go as far eastward from that boundary as the promoters wished. Mr Ellis said that was 90, and there was an objection to their covering any of the sands between the sea and the Promenade wail, as that was the place for entertainments, aDd the sands were the "children's play-ground." He wished also to make a personal explanation. It had been suggested that the lake was to be made by the Queen's Palace Company, of which he was a director, but that was not so. It was true that some of those interested in the Palace were also interested in the Scheme, but he was not, nor was Mr Clews, another director. It was being Mr by gentlemen who were connected with the Palace, but not by the Pal- ace Company. He hoped that the matter would receive due ooineiderat'on, and if they could help the project forward they slhoukl do so. Mr J. W. Jones said he did not quite agwe with the site, and thought that something should be done to make less obviouB the nakedness of tlie sands between the gardens and the pavilion. Mr E. B. Jcaies hoped nothing wouW be done to spoil the "chi!d'nen's play-ground." The matter was left to the Road Committee focr further report. TENTS IS COURTS WANTED. Mr Hill asked if the Council had received any offer for the site in the gardens for entertain- met its, and on being told that, no offer had been made, he sugog that the Road Oommittee- wliich he thought was becoming as slow as tfue General Purposes Committee—(laughter)— should take the matter in hand, and see w-bet-her they could not arrange for tenuis in the gardens. Mr FJJiø said he would personally prefer to eoe the. green sward than to have & number of balls knocked about the gundoris. Bowls would be better than tennis. The matter was left to the Road Committee. ADVERTISING RHYL. II It was recommended that. the RhyJ Advertising1 Association be voted the sum of Lloo, as last year, for advertising the pavilion and gardens, but to this Mr Tilby took objection, urging that they had' not provided for it in tlie estimates- Several members expressed surprise at tirisL but Mr T&lby adhered tc what he said, and urged that the Association for this year's work could do with less. He admitted that excellent work was being done, and said that but for the lamentable lack of support given the Associa- tion there would be no need to ask for Id. He suggested that they should vote £25, "d let a oonmUtco deal with the matter. Mr Taverner supported this proposal. Mr J- W. Jones said the Association was doing good for RhyL They spent the money well, and deserved to be encouraged, because last year they brought a largo number of new people to the town. Mr Hill also supported the Association, and stated it was known that last year there wore heavior bookings to Rhyl from places where the posters had been displayed than ever before. Mr Ellis said he also oonsidered it was money well spent. That was the only way they as a town could advertise, and they should do what they could to help the Association. On a division it. was decided by eight votes to five that the JBIOC be subscribed, two members of the Council being appointed on the committee of the Association. EXTENDING THE SEASON. Mr Hill asked what was being done to extend the season beyond the usual limit? Other places wero taking steps to prolong the season, and the Council shou'd move. If they could not do so would they encourage others interested in the town to take the matter in hand, and by the running of concerts extend the season, so tha* all would benefit. The Chairman said the General Purposes Com- mittee would consider the iiiatter. THE FORESHORE ATTRACTIONS. The Council refused permission for a "Round Houp-la," but favourably considered a proposal for a "C)ake-walk Machine," for the foreshore. INSPECTOR OF HACKNEY CARRIAGES. Mr Pickin was appointed inspector of hackney carriages for the season. NO CIGARETTES. It was reported that the agent for the auto- matic machines had given the Council an under- taking not to supply cigarettes from the machines in accordance with the Children's Act. THE RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION MOVING. The Clerk placed before the Council letters from the Ratepayers' Association asking to be supplied with a copy of the special report re Electric Light Works, and a printed copy of the Council's minutes each month; suggesting an extension of the band season; urging the Coun- cil to put into operation the powers under the Private Street Works Act for ensuring the better cleanliness and sanitation of back passages; and requesting a copy of the statement of accounts for the pavilion and gardens prior to the publio inquiry for the extra loan. A discussion arose as to what report was re- ferred to in the letters. Mr Hill said the Association wanted the re- rt of the special coniniitt?ee on the eiectria r ght as well-as on the gardens. Mr Tilby suggested that the whole matter be dealt with by a committee. Mr Clews proposed that the report and minute* be supplied, but it was agreed to dea) with the matter in committee. Other letters from the same Association wero also referred to a committee. GAS. Satisfactory progress was reported to have been made with the new bolder and mains, and it was resolved to supply slot meteri to all ask- ing for them. WATER REPORT. It was reported that the contractors for the new water tower were bringing their plant to the ground, and that sanction for the necessary loan had been obtained. THE LIBRARY. A report from Mr Williams, the librarian, upon the working of the free library for twelve months was presented, from wliich it. appeared that 30,824 books had been issued (24,645 being fiction), as against 25,922 for the previous year. The sum of JB29 4s 6d had been received in fines, and for cards, waste paper, and catalogues.
