THE FREE LIBRARY.—There were large aiKtoanoes at the Town Hall oil Friday and Saturday evenings when exhibitions of Mr John tiodanain's animated pic- tures were given in aid of the funds of the Conway Borough Free Library. TII, pietUlffi were delightfully clear and vivid, and amongst all excellent 8eIocti-Ju the audiences were much interested in the pictures of the English Cup final between Barnsley and New castle, and the annual demonstration of tlie National Fire B ri g3 does Unbn, held at Llandudno last year. A musical programme was also sustained. A GIRL'S ESCAPADE. On Saturday morning a party of girls, who had been staying for some tame at the Hadley Holiday Home, were at the Conway Railway Station awaiting the train which was to con- vey them to Liverpool, whsn one girl, about seven- teen years of age, eluded the vigilance of the mat- rons wlie were in charge, and left the station. The C'<>nway police were informed, and P.C. Davies (17) went in search of her. The girl wa.3 eventually found at. Deganwy. When questioned by the constable, the only reason she gave for her action was that she was unhappy. She left by a later trairn for the Wesleyan Mission llQme, Liverpool. THE CAMBRIAN ART GALLERY.—Saturday was visitors' day at Plas Mawr, the home of the Cambrian Art Academy, and, as usual, a large number availed themselves of lh opportunity to inspeot the exhibits on view. The visitors were entertained to tea by the offic-ials and committee of the Aaademv, Uie tables being prresided over by Mi-s Jones (headmistress of the Girls' School), Mis.=ee Evett, and Mrs and Miss l'age.

A RUNAWAY HORSE.—While an eques- trian was riding through the Square, on Fniday, the bit came out of the hcrtVa mouth. Tihe animal, evidently rejoicing in his temporary freedom, rushed with his ha.pc-G.3 ridar down Station-road, scattering the pedestrians right and left. He was at last brought t-o a I by Mr Maurice Williams, The Library, who, with suggestive movements of hie arms, succeeded in stopping his wild career. Mr Evan Thomas, Long ton House, at the Blaenau Festiniog Show, on Monday, was awarded first prize for a flying homer, and third prize in the variety class. Mr Owen Williams, Crown Buildings, won second prize Tn the dog sec ti-on, and also a special prize at the Port- madoc Show; he also won two second prizes. Davies Jones) appeared ior the plaintiff; Mar R. O. Davies for Mr H. A. Hugthes; and Mr Aneurin Evans for the other defendants. Mr R. O. Davies pointed out that as Mr H. A. Hughes had only acted as the com- pany's auditor, he was not interested in the oase, therefore the plaintUf should abandon the action against him. Mr Artemus Jones acquiesced, and his Honour struck Mr Hughes' name out. Mr Artemus Jones pointed out to his Honour that in oixi-er to establish the plain- tiff's contention regarding the company's in- solvency at the time of the sale it would be nteeeesary to procure the attendance of two witnesses who were that day incapacitated through ilnem. He, therefore, applied for the adjournment of the case to the next court. His Honour granted the application, the pi am tin to pay costs of the day into court.

MOTOR CYCLE ACCIDENT.—A serious accident oocurred on the Glaseojd HiM, on Saturday, when Mr Jones; bailiff of the Rhyl County Court. was returning home on a motor hccycle. He was descending the hill, which is very «t-ep—the drop from top to bottom, being about 500 feet, with the main road from St. Asaph to Ab:-rgele running at right angles at the foot—when he lost control of his machine and dashed into a motor car, which was travelling from Manchester to Col w v.TI Bay. The motor bicycle was smasdiod, but fortunately the r-der threw himseuf from the machine bsfore the col'iision, falling cm liis bead. The wings of the motor car were damag-fd, and the steering gear was dislocated. The occupants of ° the car, escaping without injury, packed up Mr Jonœ. who was badly cut about the head and body and had his clothing ripped. They placed the car and conveyed him to Dr. Hughes, Abergele, where he hod his injuries attended to, being afterwards sent home to Rhyl in amother car. It was a miracle that he wa3 not killed outright. Inquiries made lait Rhyl on Monday showed that Mr Jones wa,s making good progress towards recovery. He has been injured about the head and logs, but 'hi., body escapcd in a marvellous manr-cr. Although paitehed up he feels well, a.nd hopes to be ab'e to return to duty shortly. SHIPWRÐLED. EGLWYSBACH. FAIR DAY.—The annual hiring fair, known as "Ffair Galaninai," watj hold here on Wocin-es- day, last v/ee-k. A large crowd attended. Very little business was done in the selling of boasts. Buyers were scarce, and the stock shown was not up to the usual stmnd'ard, which no doubt waa nminily due to the unusual shortage of fodder in the district. A few yearlings changed hands at prices ranging from £ 5 15.3 ff;7 ICs. There was no deniand for milch cows. The chief busirjese was an tlie hiring of farm hands for the year; and a great many youths from 15 to 20 years oM were hired at wages ranging from £ 15 to JE25 and teamsters even up to £ 33 for the year.

Dr. Oliver said there were complaints in ChO town a.bout paupers going out and getting drunk, and people wondorod how it was they were allowed to go back to tho house in a state of drunkenness. The rainfall was 0.540 inches. LLANDUDNO AUTUMN CONCERTS COMMITTEE. A meeting of tho committee appointed to arrange for the continuation of the Llan. dudno Pier Concerts, from October 10th next until October 30th, was heid last week. Mr William Arnold presided. It was reported that Mr Walter Ha.igh would act as usual as conductor, and that the orchestra would con- sist of twenty instrumentalists. A numoer of popular vocalists were engaged, includ- ing Mr James Coleman, baritone; Miss Mar- ion Bflcley, contnu to; Miss Loui e James, soprano; Mrs Ord Charter, soprano; and negotiations we.re authorised with Mr Emlyn Davies, baritone, a.nd others. Mr James Ghilcott, a popular humorist, was engaged for three mights, aud ;.t is hoped also to se- cure a return visit from Mr Leslie Harris. On October 15th, the Musical Festival a.r- ranged for by the committee will take place, at which substantial prizes will be offered for choral singing and vocal and instrumental eolos. On Wednesday, October 19th, the Llandudno Amateur Operatic Society intend to perfom the Gilbert and Sullivan opera, "Trial by Jury," as tlie second part of the concert programme. Promises of subscrip- tions towards the concerts continue to come in, and there are now over 300 subscribers names on the list, the total amount promised, for which tickets for the concerts will bo allocated at special rates, be.ng ^-60. "The Minister's Daughter" is a tale of a n striking a. 'd pathetic kind, introducing beauti- ful pastoral scenery, religious, ceremonial, and a popular finale. BULLDOG ATTACKS A PONY.—Consider- able excitement was caused at the top of Green- field-road on Saturday evenirsg, when a pony, attached to a cart, whrch was standing near the pavement, was suddenly attacked by a bulldog.
