NOTES D_ANTIC¡;'1'IONS. I LONDON, TPRSDAY NIGHT. It was moit unfortunate th»t the wemther tliis morning should hnve been dull, cold, and showery, as i, altogether prevented a laree company from putting in an appearance at Newmarket. The proceedings began with the Trial Plft.e, for which Quartus was an absentee. Foghorn aud Norman wer>m most request, and though they each got place, they WCI e both beaten by the least fancied Caliche, who sco,.d I .'au2h:e a 88hich,rtan H: in the same stulde, copied in the DnaNe fri*) Plate, Carliaa being bin Iced in the latter once against the field. Another Newmarket stable tliat scored a double event was Jewitt's, who, with Suspender, carried off the Fitzwilliam Plate, and followed this up by appropriating the Crawfurd Handicap with Dearest, who was made a very wurm favourite. The biggest field of the d»y turned out for the V,.i t 0r?, Piate, just a score doing duty. Of these the Windsor winner-Quebec-Ind Normandy were iu best odour, 8 to 1 being closed with. They finished fifth and sixtu, Wild Berry, who won at rinndown on Friday and who was well backed, winning by a length from Radeilffe. who was half a length In front of Maxim. The most important event of the aftemoon-the Thirty third Biennial—was contented bv seven three-year-olds, of whom Klodilen Field, at 5 to 2, WHS in better demand than FitzSiinon and Peter Flower. Flodden Field was beaten before enter. ing the Abington Mile bottom, where Peter Flower challenged FitzSiinon, anil, though the i»sue was in doubt for a short time, Peter Flower, in the and, won somewhat cleverly, and at once recovered much of hillOlt ground for the Two Thousand, 5 to 2 being accepted about him for this race, though itw" afterwards on offer.
