The death occurred on Saturday, the 17th inst., after a protracted illness, of Mrs Roberts, the widow of the late Mr William Roberts, of 4, Epworth Terrace, at the age of 65. Mrs Roberts was well known locally, being a native of this town, and a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Ellis Morris, of Tanyfedw. She was greatly respected by all who knew her, and will be sadly missed at the Park Road C.M. Chapel, where she was a faithful mem- ber. The deceased bad experienced great and sore troubles in the course of her life. Her sorest trial was the loss of her only daughter, 11 years ago, at the early age of 24. Her husband, also, had been ailing for a considerable time pre- vious to his decease. But in the face of all her disappointments and sorrows, Mrs Roberts bore herself with Christian fortitude, her heart and sou! being sus- tained by the peace which passeth all understanding." The internment took place on the fol- lowing Wednesday, the 21st, at Llanaber. The chief mourners were :—Messrs. J. W. anc 0. F. Roberts (sons) Messrs. John, Francis, Robert and Ellis Morris (brothers); Mrs Evans, Tygwyn Cottage, and Mrs Tank, Victoria Hotel (sisters) Miss Olwen Roberts (grand daughter). At the house the service was conducted by the Revs. E. Afonwy Williams arid J. Gwynoro Davies whilst the Revs. E. Vaughan Humphreys and D. Davies (Harlech) officiated at the graveside. General sympathy prevails with the family in their bereavement, and es- pecially with Mr O. F. Roberts, whose devotedness to his mother was so great. The duties of undertakers were carried out by Messrs. Evans and Williams.

BARMOUTH COUNCIL.
BARMOUTH COUNCIL. SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the above Council was held on Tuesday night. Present Messrs J. Pryce Jones (chairman); 'I Owen Williams (vice-chairman); John Morgan, Henry Freeman, J. Llewelyn Davies, Edward Williams, D. E. Davies, William Owen, Robert LI. Wil- liams and Rbys Jones with Messrs R. Llewelyn Owen (deputy-clerk) and T. R. Parry (surveyor). I REPAIRING OF ROADS. The Surveyor presented his estimates for repairing the main roads from the Police Station to the Council's boundary at Parsel, an-d also for repairing Park Road. A petition was presented from a number of ratepayers on the Marine Parade calling the Council's attention to the state of the road at the back of Marine Terrace, and the matter was referred to the Surveyor to prepare an estimate for the repairing of same. It was docided to advertise in the Barmouth Advertiser for tenders for tarmacadamizing the main road between the Police Station and Parsel, the cost of same to be covered for a term of three years. It was resolved that the Surveyor should prepare an estimate of the cost of repairing J^ark Road and Jubilee Road. NEW WATER PIPES. The Surveyor presented his estimates for the laying of new water pipes along Penycei, and it was decided that the work should be proceeded with at once.

I BARMOUTH. The Cuckoo.—The Cuckoo was heard in the neigbbourbopd of Barmouth last Saturday afternoon. Congi,atulatioiis.At a meeting of the Urban District Council, held on Monday night, the Chairman (Mr J. Pryce Jones) gave a hearty welcome to Mr J. Llewelyn Davies on his return to the Council, and Mr Davies suitably re- sponded. The Late Mr E. W. Ellis.-At the St. David's Church, on Sunday evening, a memorial service was held in memory of the late Mr E. W. Ellis, Staffordshire House, the service being conducted by the Rev. R. Ward, B.A. At the close of the service, the Dead March was played by Miss M. Griffith, Marine Road. Enlisting.—During the last few days the following have enlisted from Bar- mouth :—Mr William Watkins, 3, Peny- bryn (Royal Engineers) Mr Ernest Clark, Dyffryn (R.W.F. Bantams) Mr Harry Whitehead, Park Road (Army Service Corps, Transporl) Mr J. R. Jones, Manchester House (Royal En- gineers). Unionist Club. -The Executive Com- mittee of the Workingmen's Unionist Club met on Thursday evening last at the Club. The following were elected officers for the ensuing year:-Chair- man, Mr John Jones, 12, Marine Ter- race vice-chairman, Mr Ernest Lloyd, Min-y-Mor; caretaker, Capt. Griffith Williams, Beach Road; secretary, Mr William Garnett, Penrhyn View. Bowling Club.—On Thursday night a meeting of the Bowling Club was held at the Masonic Hall, under the chair- manship of Mr Henry Freeman. It was reported that forty-five members had joined the Club last year, and a deputa- tion -was appointed to wait upon the Tennis Club with a view of having the same site-as last year for the Club. It was decided that the membership for the ensuing year should be 2/6. North Wales Union of English Con- gregational Churches.—It is twenty-five years since the above held their meetings at Barmouth. In returning thanks to the English Congregational Church, the Rev. Thos. Lloyd, sec., said:—"The reception given them by the Church was one of the best they bad ever received, and it reflected the greatest credit upon the pastor (Rev. W. Glandwr-Morgan) and people. They were royally treated in beautiful Barmou th. The pastor in his reply said The devotion and work of the members of the Church was a joy and pleasure to his heart. They were glad. to have the Rev. Z. Mather (the first pastor of the Church) and one of tne first deacons—Mr Ellis Evans- present. They missed Mr Meredith Evans, the senior deacon and trustee, who had. devoted so much time and energy to the Church. He bad entered to his rest and his works followed him. Mr John Morgan, deacon, through indisposition was unable to be with them, but was glad to learn he was better. From Australia.—Last week, Mr John Griffith, Tudor House, who emi- grated to Australia, arrived home. French Lessons will be given by a Belgian gentleman. Terms moderate. Church Parade. -On Sunday morning at 10 a.m., the Barmouth Volunteer Training Corps will attend the service at Caersalem Chapel when the Rev. Gwynoro Davies will conduct the ser- vice. Urban Council Election.—On Satur- day last an election took place to fill a casual vacancy on the Urban District Council. Two candidates contested the seat, and the following result was made known at 10 p.m. :—Mr J. Llewelyn Davies, St Ann's Sq., 274; Mr Evan Griffith, Cambrian House, 151. Mr R. Llewelyn Owen acted as returning offi- cer, assisted by Mr Emrys Evans, Ll.B. and Mr John Roberts, C.C. Methodist Festival. The annual Calvinistic Methodist Festival for the Dyffryn District was held yesterday (Wednesday) at Caersalem Chapel. The singing was conducted Mr J. J. Thomas, Talsarnau, and Mr R. Roberts, A.C., Dyffryn. The accompanists were Miss Mamie Roberts, London House, and Mr Lewis Williams, Ceylon House. Presentation.— Yesterday (Wednes- day) Mr J. R. Jones, Manchester House, was presented by the Postmaster and Staff at the Barmouth Post Office, with a safety razor suitably inscribed. The presentation was made by Mr John G. Roberts. Mr Jones left this morning (Thursday) for Chatham, where he has joined as an office telegraphist in the Royal Engineers (Regular Army). Llanaber Road Scheme.—On Monday night, at the Council Office, a conference was held between the Urban Council and the local members on the Merioneth County Council with reference to relief work to be carried out at Barmouth. The County Council were represented by Alderman T. Martin Williams, J.P. (chairman of the County Council), Coun- cillor R. W. Jones, Councillor John Ro- berts and Mr E. Vaughton (county sur- veyor). The Urban Council were repre- sented by Meesrs J. Pryce Jones (chair- man), Owen Williams (vice-chairman), John Morgan, R. Lloyd Williams, Henry Freeman, William Owen, D. O. Hugbes, Edward Williams and J. Llewelyn Davies with Messrs R. Llewelyn Owen (deputy clerk) and T. R. Parry (sur. veyor). After a long discussion it was decided to rescind the resolution already passed by the Council to cancel the pro- posed scheme of widening the road on the Llanaber Road and to proceed with the widening of the road in front of King's Crescent, and to proceed with the first scheme, subject to Mr W. W. Greener signing the draft agreement and alao the necessary land been given by the Trustees of the Ty'rgraig Estate. It was reported that the whole scheme would cost C850, and grants would be given to he amount of £ 605.
