Pryce Jones) for his able dealing with local food matters. URBAN COUNCIL. I The amnual meeting of Margam Urban Council was held on Monday, when Capt. James Preston was unanimously eleoted chairman. Capt. Pre&ton has been a member of the Council for several years, and has already filled the vice-chair. He is a member of the Neath Board of Guar- dians and of Port Talbot Pilotage Board. As vice-chairman, Mr. John Walters, Bryn, was elected. The constitution of the proposed Joint Wages Board for South Wales municipal authorities was submit- ted and approved. Messrs. Ll. H. Nicho- las and Rd. Evans were appointed repre- ssntatives of the Council on the Boacd. The Food Control Committee recom- mended that the librarian (Mr. D. S. J. Hugihes) should be re-elected as temporary food inspector. Councillors J. Watkin and Wm. Lewis opposed, suggesting that the post should be advertised to give an opportunity for discharged soldiers to ap- ply. It was pointed out that owing to this appointment the librarian had to en- gage an assistant at the Library, and it was suggesed that this assistant should be I a discharged, soldier. After considerable discussion, Mr. Hughes was re-elected, and the question of the library assistant was referred, to the Library Committee.

PORT TALBOT. I Traffic at Port Talbot Docks during last week was as followsExports: Coal and coke 18,128, patent fuel 6721 angles 2,983, making a total of 2S,132. Imports were 4,051, comprising iron ore 2.575, stones 190 pitch 635, copper ore 651. The total tonnage was 32,183 compared with 44,231 in the corresponding week of last year. Capt. Humphrey'Jones, harbqur-iuagtcr, Port Talbot, has heard from Captain F. H. Gpthing, a native of Aberavon, that he had been notified by the Admiralty that tl King had been pleased to approve of the award of the Distinguished Service Cross. He had also received from Lloyd's a silver medal and certificate and also a cheque from the Directors of Shipping. Capt. Gething, who is a brother of Mr. Gething (North's Navigation) was invested at Buckingham Palace on Saturday. At Aberavon on Monday, Bdward McCann, Mark MeCann, Thoe.
