LLANVIHANGEL CRUCORNEY. I PARISH COUNCIL.—A meeting of the Parish Council was held on Thursday, the 9th inst., in the Schoolroom. Present: Councillors Rev. John Davies (chairman); Joseph Griffiths, Werngifford David Edwards, The Cefn; Philip R. Evans, White House; William Edwards, Rhoss Rhudd; and the Clerk, Mr. Sam B. Davies. Before commencing the usual business, the Chairman very feelingly referred to the sad death of their late vice-chairman (Mr. Thos. H. Watkins, Pandy Inn). He said that their late I colleague had many sterling qualities which f endeared him to everyone who came into contact with him, and as a member of their Council he was always most attentive to his duties. He moved a vote of condolence to the widow and family in their sad bereavement. Councillor Griffiths seconded, and the vote was passed, the members signifying their approval by standing.— The Clerk reported that he had purchased the Ordnance Survey map of the parish, at a cost of £ 2 13s. 6d., as directed by them, and the account for same was passed for payment.. It was re- solved. on the proposition of Councillor GriTiths, seconded by Councillor Philip Evans, that the map be kept at their Clerk's office, and that it be open to inspection by any parishioner when requested at any reasonable time.—Mr. George Watkins, Glannant, Pandy, was elected as a member of the Council, to fill the vacancy -caused by the death of the late Mr. Thos. H. Watkins. Mr. David Edwards (Penishaplwydd) was unanimously appointed vice-chairman.— The Clerk (Mr. Sam B. Davies) informed the Council that it was practically decided that the County Council should refund to the parish the sum of -1358 18s., being the amount which had been claimed by the overseers on overpay- ments of county rates consequent upon the reductions which were made in the Great Western Railway Co.'s assessments in February of last year. He said that Mr. J. O. Marsh, Abergavenny, had rendered invaluable assist- ance in this matter and had fought their case at the County Council meetings time after time until success was achieved.-The members ex- pressed their satisfaction, and it was decided that the thanks of the Council be accorded to Mr. Marsh for his great help, and the Clerk was instructed to convey their appreciation of his services.-Councillor Joseph Griffiths gave notice of motion that at their next meeting they, as a Parish Council, should show in a practical manner their appreciation of the manner in which their Clerk (Mr. Sam B. Davies) had con- ducted and prepared the refundment claim and carried it to such a successful issue. The result of the refundment will mean a reduction in their next rate equal to about one shilling and five pence in the pound, and the claim had been carried through without spending a penny on legal advice or aid. ..&.
