I A concert, its every way excellent, was given for the men of the West Lancashire Engineers at the Penrhyn Hall on Monday night. The attendance was, however, meagre. The Mayor (Mr R. J. Williams), who presided, hoped the men would be very happy during their stay in Bangor, and though they all looked very fit, he hoped they would look fitter when the time camo for them to leave the city to assist in the great task of driving the Germans out of France and Belgium. In that work they as Engineers would play an important part. Ar- rangements were being made to entertun the men during the long winter evenings, but he was rather di;appomted at the attendance thaf. even- ing. The Y.M.C.A. would be open to them, and several schoolrooms in various parls of the town were to be prepared for them. They in Ban- gor had previously entertained troops, including i number who, like the Engineers, u!so came from Lancashire—the 11th South Lancashires— and they were greatly improved after their stay. They did not give the slightest trouble, and the townspeople were exceedingly sorry to see them go, and he hoped that the conduct of the Engineers would be such that their departure would also be regretted. The following was the programme: Clee, "Mynheer Vangraff," Bangor Ladies' Choir; recitation, "Women of Mumbles' Head," Cor- poral Gow, R.A.M.C.; song, "Kiiiarncy," Mrs Lowe; humorous song, Mr H. T. "My Council hag heard with very groat regret (says Mr Parry) of the rather sudden departure of your battalion from th-o Morfa Camp. Had it been practical, steps would have been taken to givo you an official ^c-nd-off, for it is felt on alli Itindt that the officers and men have earned for themselves during their brief so- journ in Conway the best sentiments of re- spect and regard that could be attained in a.ny community. The unvaried good feeling aud hearty fellowship of the men have left an abiding impression on the townspeople which will serve to perpetu, ate a happy re- lationship between those who were by the force of circujnstaiice3 thrown together in such turbulent times. On behalf of my Council no iccs than the townsfolk I .y-i hoc rely wish you one and all God-speed."
