If in every parish a subscription list cannot be opened successfully, I see no reason why tho offertories in the churches should not be given for one Sunday. This was suggested nt the Swansea meeting soino time since, but nothing so far has been done. Perhaps some universal Sunday could be fixed upon, and special preachers announced. About 800 per:ion, were hospitably entertained on Thursday at the College, the bulk of these being clergymen. If only these were to ask their congregations to give their offertories for one Sunday a large amount would, doubtless, be realised. Possibly if the llishop of Llanduff would suggest the course proposed to his brother Bishops they would each communicate with their clergy upon the subjoct. Almost at the last moment the Liberals have broken the compact, and are bring- ing forward two candidates in the persons of Messrs. F, J. Beavan and Marshall (Grangetown). This, we understand, has caused considerable annoyance among a large section of the independent ratepayers, and both the sitting members have expressed their determina- tion not to stand a contest* Pressure will, we are informed, be brought w bear p.n Mr. Lougher to reconsider his determination, and, in the event of this being succeurul, it is i.tendod to ask one of the following gentlemen to contest the ward with himMr. J.
