Cwmpark.
Cwmpark. The funeral of Mrs. Wm. Oliver whose death wo reported last week, took place on Friday, amid general manifestations of sorrow and sympathy. A large concourse attended to form the procession, and the choir of Salem Chapel rendered hymns en route to Treorchy Cemetery. The Rev. James Davits (pastor) officiated at the graveside. He spoke in eloquent terms of the sincere character of the deceased, and paid a, tribute to her generosity of heairt and her excellence as a mother and friend. Several wreaths were sent, among them being tokens by Mrs. J. Lewis (sister), Miss Jenny Breeze, Mrs. Bumford, and the teaching staff of Cwmparc School. A fairly well attended public meeting was held at the Institute on Tuesday evening, when ways and means for securing much-needed reforms were di&- cussed, notably telegraph and telephone facilities and the acquisition of a, hose and reel for local use. A strong com- mittee was formed, and it is to be hoped that theteps to be taken will speedily meet with snjccess.
¡Amusements.
¡ Amusements. Hippodrome, Tonypandy. The Jaaowsky Troupe of acrobats, who top the bill at the Hippodrome this week, are a versatile and daring combination. Their hand and head balancing is certainly clever, but the feat of scaling a ladder with a man, upside down oil one's head is nothing abort of risking it. A sparkling couple axe Kent and Earle, in Everyday Oocnrrencfs." This lady and gentleman impersonate various characters with telling effect, and their efforts are roundly applauded. Tom Poole is another great draw in The Porter with His Midnight ExpresR. His eccentric mannerisms and acrobatio d-ancing go, well. Others on the bill arc George Edney. a popular character vocalist; and Wilfred Burnand. a clever chaalacter impersonator. Among the series of excellent pictures shown is Italy's Wonderful Cavalry," a splendid film showing in vivid picture the feats of the best horsemen in the world. Tivoli, Pentre. J. W. Rowley, who tops this week's programme, has many quaint songs, and knows hov, to sing them. His patter is •up-to-date and takes well. The singing navvy, in the person of Harry Coatr.C possesses a refined voice, which he uses to advantage in his charming renderings. Keg. Bolton, in his amusing seen a, The Editor's Imp," proves to be It decidedly humorous artiste, with an abundance of wt at his command, and is especially great in his imaginary telephone conver- sation. Abet and Welsh, the eccentric acrobats, are a pair of performers who execute marvellous bodily contortions with perfect ease, and create unbounded mirth by their ludicrous antics. Different methods of dancing are shown by Henry and Blanche, who are graceful dancers; whilst Gladys and Albeiv indulge in amusing dialogues, and wind up with neat stepping, coupled with daring tvolutions. Tate and Tate are an useful pair, who possess nerve and tact. The eccentric customer proves very much so, and his curious behaviour at a. public bar ends with smart balancing feats. The Bros. Ford will take some beating in their stepping turn whilst the indispensable Tivoliscope (shows some beautiful films illustrative of Life Behind the Stage." Pafaoe, Porth. An excellent show is provided this week at the Palace, the star" turn being! Heeley and Meeley, great eccentric come- dians, who appear as The Lucky Tramps." Horace White, the ventrilo- quist, t. uncommonly good and quite inimitable at the piano. The Five Musical Tritons, vocalists and instrumentalists, score imrnerusely, and are loudly applauded. The Czar's Royal Troupe of Dancers also receive plaudits. Harry Friskey, comedy juggler, is rather frisky" and makes a good hit, as aho do the Four DQnms, i gymnaeiie athlete* dii trapeze. Harry: iWenbum is a great comedian and creates uproarious laughter; while Flo Banks, a charming vaudeville artiste, and Annie Heath, comedienne and dancer, are also conspicuous. The Palascope pictures are, as usual, thoroughly good. Opera House, Treherbert. During the latter part of last week, In Holy (!) Russia" was produced by Mr. J. Rice Caesidy's No. 1 Company, and drew good and appreciative audiences. The play reflected glimpses of the corruption of Russian official life, the cruel hardship and the murderous yet patriotic passions and the murdemsu yet patriotic passions of the Nihilists. The part of "Mickey Nolan" (Mr. J. Rice Cassidy) was very popular, his efforts being ever answered by roars of laughter. Renee Rubinoff (Mrs. J. R. Cassidy) was capitally im- personated. The patrons of the Opera House have enjoyed a special treat in the production of Mr. diaries Chard's up-to-date comic pantomime, entitled Babes in the Wood," which was presented for the first three nights of uis week before crowded houses. The outstanding features of this pantomime were the charming music, the clever and beautiful dancing, the magnifi- cent scenery, and the lively tone of the pantomime, which was accompanied by the merry laughter of the delighted audi ence. Billed as a speciality were the Two Dominoes (donkey and clown). The per- formance of this pair was very amusing, and never could it be thought that a donkey could exhibit such remarkable human-like intelligence. The other speciality, the American Quartet of Lady Dancers (principal dancer, Miss Maude Clarke), gave a clever display of most graceful dancing. The two babes, "Harold" (Miss Lily Belled and "Lucy" (Miss Violet Chard), completely won the audience with their sweet songs and pretty dancing. "Robin Hood" and Maid Marian were very popular parts; wliile Little John (Miss Jeseie St. Julian), and" Meny Mavis n (Miss Lily St. Julian) were particularly successful, being encored on several occasions. Chief among the comic artistes was Mi". Charles Chard, as •• Razzle Dazzle," Gentle Georgie," and Burgling Bill." Among the most magni- ficent scenes were if The Pansy Gardens" and The Banqueting Hall." For the remainder of this week, Miss Inez Howard's company (under the direc- tion of 1\11". Henry Chattoll) is billed to present the romantic military play" The Midnight Wedding." Cardiff Empire. Mr. George Gray and Company will re- appear at the Cardiff Empire next week in "The Fighting Parson." The possi- bilities in the stage as an influence for good upon the great mass of the peoplo ara enormous," said the Fighting Parson," rather aggressively. Not long ago I was playing my Road to Ruin in a London Suburban hall, the principal shareholders in which were local licensed victuallers. There is a terrible' D. T.' scene in the sketch, and the publicans in tho district discovered about Wednesday that they were doing absolutely no trade. They were so convinced that it was my sketch which had taken away the thirst for whisky and beer, that the publican shareholders asked that the next time I came, would I play something else, because 'The Road to Ruin' was w> inirrious to trade." Others engaged are the famous A Vmed Ibrahim Troupe of Arabs. Billy 1hbhs, Rapoli, J. H. Scotland, Jimmy Shields, and Jennie Hartlev. I

Thomas was the officiating minister. Mrs. Williams leaves one daughter to mourn her loss. At Bryn Seion, Gelli, on Sunday and Monday, the pulpit was occupied by Master J. Stanley Thomas, the boy preacher, of Llangennech. Large congre- gations assembled to listen to his dis- ccurses, which proved to be very interest- ing.
