Tonypandy. The funeral of the late Mr. T. Bunford, Jfvenry Street, Tonypandy, who died on Auesday, the 18th inst., from heart tailure, at the early age of 44, took place on Saturday last at Llethrddu Cemetery, Trealaw, the officiating minister being the Rev. W. S. Jones, pastor of Jerusalem, Llwynyma. at which church deceased was a member. The funeral arrangements were conducted by Messrs. Griffiths and Sons. Tonypandy. The deceased, who had been ailing ror some time, was well known in the locality, and was secretary of the local branch of the Ancient Order of Shepherds Friendly Society. FIRE. Dinas. On Saturday last, Mr. David Rees, the district coroner, held an inquest at Dinas on Thomas John Evans (18), labourer, employed at Ely Colliery. It appeared that deceased got into an empty tram, the coupling of which broke, off, causing the tram to run wild, and according to medical evidence deceased sustained a compound fracture of the leg and severe internal injuries. Death was due to hemorrhage caused by the accident. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence. The deceased was buried at Llethrddu Cemetery on Tuesday.
Pentre.
Pentre. In order to suitably reward the efforts of three gentlemen who have succeeded in enrolling the largest number of new members to the Lark of Hope Lodge, a. meeting was held at the Market Hotel on Saturday evening, the 22nd ult. The announced chairman, Councillor E. T. Davies, Maindy Crescent, Ton, was un- able to be present, and the popular secre- tary (Mr. Wm. Evans) was voted to the chair in his absence. Several solos and duets were rendered by Misses Edith Jones (Treorchy), Maggie Jane Jones (Treorchy), Esther Jones (Treorchy), Messrs. James Jones ,Treorchy). David Evans (Pentre), Lewis Morgan (Pentre), Fred Rees (Treorchy), and John Rees (Treorchy). Recitations were given by Misses Beatrice Thomas and Esther Ann Jones (Treorchy), and Mr. Tivv Jones (Treorchy). A pianoforte selection by Mr. Fred Mager (Treorchy) was much appreciated, and a comic song by Mr. W oodward (Pentre) elicited loud cheers. Penillion composed for the occasion by Mr. J. Milwyn Howells drew forth un- stinted applause. The three members honoured were Messrs. Wm. Jones, trea- surer (Pentre), Wm. Morgan (Treorchy), and John Davies (Pentre). The former was presented with a valuable pair of spectacles, while each of the latter re- ceived a gold medal. The meeting ter- minated with the singing of Hen Wlad fy Nhadau by Mr. David Evans. On Thursday evening, at the Assembly Rooms, Pentre, a splendid performance was given, including the bioscope pic- tures and variety turns organised by Mr. Gunn, and held on other nights of the, week at the Drill Hall. The Blackpool Flying film was shown for the first time in this district, and was well worth the money paid for admission. Half of the proceeds was given to the Cory Work- men's Band. At the Drill Hall on Thursday even- ing, the annual dance and entertainment of the churches in the district, including St. Peter's, St. David's, St. Stephen's, and St. Mark's, was held. There was a very large muster of people, the floor space being fully occupied. The whole evening was enjoyed in spite of the slight overcrowding. The inhabitants of Pentre will be interested to learn that the saddlery business so long established in Pentre has been sold to Mr. Ben Jones, saddler, Tonypandy. This gentleman worked for about fifteen years under the, late Thos. Thomas, and bought the Tonypandy saddlery business from him many years ago. He now succeeds his old 'master, and will do well to maintain the good reputation of the establishment.
Ogmore Vale.
Ogmore Vale. A select party of excursionists, in charge of Mr. D. J. Evans (postman), made their annual visit to Bristol on Wednesday last for the nurpose of seeing the pantomime, Mother Hubbard." A special saloon was engaged, and between 30 and 40 enthusiasts made the journey. To while away the tediousness of the journey a miscellaneous programme was gone through, supervised by Mr. W. Hawkins, assisted by Mr. W. Davies. Songs were rendered by Messrs. Dave Walters, Jack Williams, and Tom Venn (Bridgend) recitations by Messrs. Tom Waters and T. Evans: and mouth-organ selections bv Messrs. Alf. Gregory and Tom Calcagni. A speech on the Budget was made by Mr. Abner Davies. A most enjoyable outing was spent, especially so at the pantomime.
Treorchy.
Treorchy. We deeply regret to record the death of Mrs. Rebecca Griffiths, wife of Mr. Griffith Griffiths, 44, Dumfries Street, who passed away on Thursday last, at the age of 42. Deceased was a member of Gosen (C.M.) Chapel. The funeral, which took place on Monday, was largely at- tended, the Rev. T. Davies (Bethlehem) officiating. George Phillips, a young lad residing with his parents in Bute Street, was seriously injured by a fall of roof at the Ahergorchy Colliery on Thursday last. A skating competition for ladies and gentlemen nartners took place on the Treorchy Rink on Friday evening last. The prizes were awarded to little Miss May Ramsey and Master Arthur Meyrick. Similar competitions will take place this (Thursday) evening and Saturday evening. Ainon (W.B.) Sunday School held their anniversary services on Sunday last. The death is reported of Mrs. Peter Davies, Prospect Place, who passed away last week. The funeral took place on Monday. Dr. Morris (Noddfa) officiated, in the nresence of a. large gathering. Another of a series of competitive meetings was held at Rarnali Vestry on Wednesday evening (last week), Mr. Dd. Hughes (superintendent of the Sunday School) presiding. The adjudicators were -Music, Mr. Tom Evans (Bute Street); literature, &c., Mr. John L. Beynon (Clarke Street). Miss Beatrice Thomas won the first- prize for best solo for chil- dren under 14 years of age, and also the prize for a fine hand drawing; while the prize offered to the best reciter under 8 years of. age was divided between Misses Gwyneth Jones and Harriet Thomas. Mr. Tom Williams (Senghenydd Street) won a prize for enumerating the largest num- ber of place-names beginning with the double consonant LI. Mr. Caradog Jones acted as secretary and Mr. Isaac Jones as treasurer. The proceeds were in aid of the- Sunday School funds. On Friday evening, an enthusiastic tem- perance meeting, under the auspices of the Church of England' Temperance Society, was: held at ,St. Tyfodwg Welsh Church, under the presidency of the Rev. John Davys-Thomas, curate-in-charge, when an instructive paper was read "by the hon. secretary, Mr. Evan Jones oil Whv I am a Churchman." Mr. Danl. Morgan, Mr. David J. Davies, and the chairman took part in the subsequent discussion. After a. miscellaneous pro- gramme of sacred solos, &c., three new members were initiated into the Society, which promises to become a power for good in connection with the church. A successful meeting was brought to a close by the singing of a hymn and the Bene- diction.

Ferndale. A grand social was held at the New Institute on Tuesday evening of last week, being the outcome of a billiard match between two teams of the Ingitute which took place a few weeks ago. "The follow-I ing were the winners.—J. D. Morgans (capt.), Dan Jenkins, D. J. Roberts, Tom Howells, W. J. Evans, Ed. Rees, J. T. Burrell and Tom Matthews; while the losers were: David Ellis (capt.), D. Beech Thomas, Tommy Short. J. R. Evans, jll, J. James, D. Thomas (51), Evan Doyle, and T. J. Evans. After the social, a very fine musical programme was gone through. The Ferndale Workmen's Hall and Institute is now working in full swing. Each department is always full, especially the library. The billiards, swimming baths, and hall are also well patronised. A meeting of the Ferndale Horse Show Society was held on Thursday last at the Salisbury Hotel. The following officers were elected:—Chairman, Dr. T. W. Parry vice-chairmen, Mr. D. W. Thomas, M.E., Mr. T. E. Richards, M.E., and Dr. S. Glanville Morris, Mardy; while the treasurer and secretary, Mrs. E. Davies, Salisbury Hotel, and Mr. W. J. Davies, Brynbedw, Tylorstown, were re-elected. A strong and influential committee was formed. An increased prize list with some special features is being arranged. With deep regret we have to record the death of William Rees Davies, Duffryn Street, who passed away on Friday evening; also that Jenny Jones, the daughter of Mr. David Jones, fire- man, 43, Duffryn Street, who died after an hour's illness on Sunday morning last. A young people's meeting was held at the North Street (E.C.) Church on Sun- day evening last. The Rev. E. J. Harries, pastor of the church, delivered a most powerful sermon, whilst Miss Maggie Evans (daughter of Mr. David Evans, North Street) gave. an excellent render- ing of Lead, Kindly Lio-lit Mr. W. Davies (Hodges) gave a. violin solo. Scout Eddie Lloyd was the recipient of a Baden-Powell medal and certificate for saving a boy from being run over by a horse and cart in December last. The presentation took place at the Work- men's Hall, Ynyshir, on Thursday- last. Mr. H. Goldsworthy made the presen- tation. Eddie Lloyd has since- then been j promoted 1st Coroporal to the No. 2 Otter Patrol.

Ton. At the Central Hotel, Pentre, on Thurs- dav evening last, a social evening was held by the members of the Young Cam- bria Male Voice Society to welcome the visit of Mr. Rhys R. Morgan, Cardiff, the late conductor of the Ton Musicians. An excellent repast was partaken of, followed by a concert, presided over by Mr. James Jones (Gelli), the choir's president. The following well-known artistes took part:—Messrs. Tom Bonnell (Pentre), tlri Jones (Ton), T. J. Thomas (Pentre), Evan Evans (Pentre), and Morgan Pugh, elocutionist. Mr. John Pugh (Treorchy) was the accompanist. Messrs. Rhys R. Morgan and James Jones also gave a solo each by special request. At the close of the programme, the chairman delivered a short speech, in the course of which he said it was a credit to the people of the Rhondda that a band of young men should go to Penzance, not only for their holidays, but to help the suffering by holding a benefit concert in aid of one, of the < hospitals there. He hoped that the handsome scroll that had been presented to Mr. Morgan would be exhibited at Ton and Pentre. The scroll read as follows: —"The Committee of the West Cornwall Infirmary and Dispensary at Penzance desire to express their gratitude to Mr. Rhys R. Morgan and the members of the Ton Male: Voice Party for their great kindness in giving a concert on behalf of the funds of the above hospital during their visit to Penzance in August, 1909. The Chairman proceeded to say that he was very glad to learn that the party in- tended giving another benefit concert in aid of the hospital next summer again. vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. Morgan, Mr. Morgan responding briefly. The usual vote of thanks to the chairman and artistes brought the meeting to a close. It is with regret we record the demise and funeral of Miss Andrews, Gelli Road. Gelli. The deceased, who was about 30 years of age, had been a. sufferer for some years from consumption. The funeral took place on Monday, the Rev. M. H. Jones (Jerusalem, Ton) officiating, assis- ted by the Rev. J. Henry (Forward Movement, Treorchy). Several beautiful wreaths covered the. coffin, including one from the members of Bethany (C.M.) Sunday School, where the deceased for many years was a most faithful and ardent worker. Much sympathy is expressed with the bereaved family.

Treaiaw. The Aberdare Welsh Pageant Society paid a return visit to the Judged Hall, Trealaw, on Monday and Tuesday last, when two performances of the popular Welsh drama., "Rhs Lewis," were given to large audiences. The proceeds were in aid of the local branch of the Y.M.C.A.

Treherbert Nursing Association The annual meeting of the Treherbert Nursing Association (in affiliation with Queen Victoria's Jubilee Institute for Nurses) was held at the St. Mary's School- room, Bute Street, last Thursday even- ing. The Rev. J. D. Evans (vicar) pre- sided. A balance sheet for fifteen months (ending December 31st, 1909) was submit- ted. The total receipts were £134, of which £60 were subscribed by the work- men at Ynysfeio Collieries. The total expenditure was £ 118 2s, 5d., leaving a balance of zE15 17s. 7d. The balance sheet was accepted as read. The second annual report was also read. At the first annual meeting in October, 1908, it was resolved that, thenceforward, the finan- cial year should end on December 31st, in each year, and that the annual meet- ing be held on the following January. In order to give effect to that resolution, the period covered by the present report and balance sheet was extended to fifteen months. During that period, 92 patients were nursed-53 surgical and 39 medical cases; and 2,569 visits were paid. The officers for last year were: —President, Rev. J. D. Evans; vice-president, Mr. Seth Jones; hon. treasurer, Mr. William Glass; and hon. secretary, Mr. B. Gale. The above officers were unanimously re- elected.

Ogmore Vale. Smoking Concert.—An enjoyable smoking; concert, under the auspices of the 20th Century Club, was held at the head- quarters, the Fox and Hounds Hotel, on Saturday night, the 29tli ult. Mr. T. Lovemore (Tonyrefail) presided over a large gathering. Musical items, &c., were contributed by the following local artistes —Messrs. G. David, G. Kinsey, D. Owen and Ed. Davies.
