Llanwonno School Board Election.
Llanwonno School Board Election. To the RATEPAYERS of the Parish of Llanwonno especially those residing at Mountain Ash. LADIBS AND GENTLEMEN,— My time of service on the above Board bag once more expired, and I again venture to ask you to support my candidature in the coming Election. Fifteen years have passed since you first con- ferred on me the honour of being your represen- tative on the Llanwonno School Board. For the last six years I have conducted the affairs of the Board as its Chairman. The manner in which I have discharged my duties, and the constant application to the work connected with the education of the children, &c., have been so fully reported from time to time by the public press, that I assume it it unnecessary for me to dwell on the subject here. During the last three years I have attended 31 Board Meet- ings, 25 School Management Committees, 24 Financial Committees, and 17 Building Commit- tees total, 93 Meetings. Beside this, I have to attend twice a month on the Duffryn Joint School Committee. The result of our work as a Board, for the last three years, is, I believe, most satis- factory. Of the 17 Departments examined under the New Code in the year 1883, 6 were classed Excellent, 8 Goed, and 3 Fair; in 1884, 10 were classed Excellent, 6 Good, and 1 Fair; in 1885, 13 were classed Excellent, and 4 Good. The averages of passes during the same period were 94'7, 94 8, and 97 per cent. respectively, and the grants earned in the last three years, namely, 1883-4 & 5, amounted to £1,939 15s 3d., £ 2,082 18s 3d., and Y.2,378 9s Id; total, tb,401 2o 7d. In conclusion, I promise you, that,if returned, I will endeavour to serve in the future, as in the past, and would beg to inform those whose per- sonal acquaintance I have been unable to make that my services in the past, whether in connec- tion with the Local Board of Health, Board of Guardians, or the School Board, have been duly appreciated by my colleagues, and heartily ap- proved by a great majority of the Ratepayers of the Parish of Llanwonno. I am, your obedient servant, THOMAS EDWARDS. Lletty Ivor, Mountain Ash, February 8th, 1886.
Llanwonno School Board Election.
Llanwonno School Board Election. To the RATEPAYERS. Ladies and Gentlemen, You will be called upon on the 22nd day of this month to make your triennial selection of 9 members to constitute the School Board of this parish. I have received pressing invitations from gentlemen of influence to offer myself as one of your candidates. After thoughtfal consideration, and much anxiety, I have resolved to seek your suffrage. I am an old resident in the lecality, having lived amongst you for upwards of 40 years. During that prolonged period 1 have been a heavy ratepayer, and have always felt a keen interest ani taken an active part in promoting the general welfare of the community. I am duly impressed with the importance of education, believing that it lies at the root of all real and lasting progress. On the other hand, I shall deem it my duty to see that the wisest economical arrangements are made in the interest of my fellow-ratepayers. Having time at my disposal, which I shall be most happy to spend in furthering the educational interests of the parish, I beg to ask for your vote on the day of the poll. If elected a member of the Board I promise you conscientious devotion to duty. I am, Yours obediently, DAVID ROWLANDS, Feb. 10th, 1886. Builder.
To the Ratepayers of the Parish…
To the Ratepayers of the Parish of Llanwonno TRIENNIAL ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD. Ladies and Gentlemen, On the 22nd of this month yoa will be oalled upon (once more) to elect Nine Members to form the Llanwonno School Board for the Sixth Term. Having had the honour of being one of your representatives on the Board for the last Nise years, and having, to the best of my abilities, faith- fully carried out the trust you reposed in me, I again place my services at your disposal. Should you return me to the new Board, I promise that nothing on my part shall be wanting to give you every satisfaction in carrying out the onerous duties develving upon every member of a School Board. At the first meeting of the Board that now ceases I was unanimously appointed Vice-ohair- man. During the last term I have attended 99 Meetings and Committee Meetings of the Board. You have Nine Votes, the whole of which yoa cap give to me. I trust to your faithfulness on this occasion, as I understand that a strenuous effort is being made to prevent my return to the New Board, not because of any faut in me as a member of the Board, but to carry oat a revengeful spirit from another quarter, whieh is a gross iDjustioe and unfair. I trust to the honesty and good sense of the Ratepayers. Yours very faithfully, Brynglas, IDRIS WILLIAMS. 9th February, 1886.
Llanwonno School Board Election.
Llanwonno School Board Election. To the ELECTORS of the Llanwonno School Board. Ladies and Gentlemen,— I beg to offer myself a candidate to repre- sent you at the above Board. Should you confer upon me the honour of being elected as one of your representatives, I shall support strongly all ineasures for the improvement of the education of the woiking classes. As you are aware, I have been a representative of the district upon Le Pontypridd Local Board, and I trust my conduct in that capacity will serve as a recommendation of my services for the honour I now seek. If returned, I shall exercise all my influence for the furtherance of your interests, especially in the avoiding of all unnecessary and uncalled for expenditure. I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, WILLIAM WHITE PHILLIPS, Phillips' Terrace, Havod
Llanwonno School Board Election.
Llanwonno School Board Election. To the RATEPAYERS of the Parish of Llanwonno. Ladies and Gentlf men.- The late School Board having completed its 'erm of service, I beg to offer myself as a candi- date in the coming Election of the new Board. I have not before availed myself of the opportunity of contesting a seat on this Board, but a long-felt lesire to bring about reforms in some of its bye- laws which are prejudicial to the welfare of the working class prompts me to do go. I I am of opinion that the Standard which it is necessary for a boy to pass under this Board before being permitted to go to work should be lowerecl-the required Standard of proficiency for a, boy of 12 years of age being the 5th, whereas in the adjoining parishes of Ystradyfodwg and Llan- trisant the required standard is the 4th. The Ratepayers of this pariah are consequently placed under a disadvantage in this respect to their neighboura. I am desirous that a shild should receive the highest possible education, but I consider that it is a severe hardship imposed upon parents to be compelled to keep a boy in school when he could be assisting them in providing ior the wants of the family. I wish it to be diatinctly understood that it is not my intention to represent the views of any particular section either in politics or religion, but to promote the interests of the Ratepayers in general. If you will do me the honour of returning me, it shall at all times be my sincere pleasure to serve you to the best of my abilities. I have the honour to be, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, Troedyrbiw House, C. J. N. GRAY. Mountain .Ash, Feb. 10th, 1886.

Llanwonno School Board Election. To the RATEPAYERS of the Parish of Llanwonno^ Ladies and Gentlemen, Permit me to state that having been unani- mously invited to cone forward aa a Candidate for a Seat on the School Board at the coming election, by a public meeting of Rateparyers recently held in this locality, I consider it my duty, for several reasons, to accede to their kind and earnest request. In case you will cheerfully render me your valuable support on the day of the poll, I promise most faithfully to bear in mind the in- terest of your children, who require Educational advantages, and at the same time endeavour to keep the School Board rates as low as possible. Trus'ing you will deem me worthy of yoar con- fidence and help. I have the honour, ladies and gentlemen* To remain Your Obedient Servant, MORGAN. HUMPHREY JONES, Aberlleohau Shop, Baptist Minister. Wattatown, February 10th, 1886.
Lhmwonno School Board Election.
Lhmwonno School Board Election. To the Ratepayers of the Parish of Llanwenne. Ladies and Gentlemen, I beg to offer myself a Candidate for the above Board. I am an old inhabitant of Ponty- pridd and have felt great interest in the religions Eduoation of the yonng and youths of our town. I was the originator of the firet library, twenty- five years ago, and ooileoted a number of volumes which were presented to the present library. I took a very prominent part in the formation of the. present School Board, and have been delighted at the advance our children are making in all the branches of Education under the School Board system. I shall be pleaaed if you honour me with a Seat on the Llanwonno School Board, and will endeavour to further the cause of Education in the tature.. in the past, and to much greater advantage, hy the advanced position and infljenoe which your kind vote and support would give me, I only ask you to consult my past life and trust my future will be more prominent for good. Your vote will greatly oblige. lyoure obediently, JOHN CROCKETT. Pontypridd.
- Llanwonno School Board Election.
Llanwonno School Board Election. To the ELSCTOBS. Ladies and Gentlemen, You will be oalled tipon in a few days to elect Nine Representatives to serve you on the above Board for the next three years. At the request of a large numbbr of Ratepayers I hnve consented to offer myself as a Candidate. Before the close of the last triennial period several vacanoies occurred at the Board through death and removals; I do not, therefore, aeek to prevent the re-election of any of the old members, but only to fill up one of these vacanoies. Owing to my intimate acquaintance with the practical working of the Education Acts in an ad- joining Parish for the paat fifteen years I have ac- quired considerable experience, which will be of great assistance to me if elected to serve on this Board. The primary objeot of the passing of the Educa- tion Act was the education of all ohildren' us Elementary subjeots, and if returned it will be my aim at all times to keep this objeot in view. As a Ratepayer in the Parish, I shall naturally endeavour to deal with the affairs of the Board in the most economical manner possible, consistent with the efficiency of the sohools. Trusting I shall be honoured with your confidence, I remain, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your humble servant, H. b. DAVIES. Pontypridd, Feb. 11th, 1886.
