HIGHER STANDARD SCHOOLS FOR CARNARVON AND LLANDUDNO. SCHOOL ACCOMMGDATiON AT LLYSFAEN. A special meeting of the CamarvooBiiire Education Committee was held on S-atuixiay to consider the architect's report on his re- vision of tine plans of tlie pioj-xxsed higiher r, standard school for Carnarvon. Originally it was not intended thalfc the cost of the school, including < £ 900 for. the aite, should exceed £ 6000, but when tenders were invited it was f-ouoo th-alt the Lowest reached a sum not far short of = £ 10,000. By the amended specification it was estimated that a saving of some £ 1400 would be effected, but even this 'scarcely brought the schemte within the linriit.s prescribed at the outset. Mr J. R. Pritchard and Mr Issard Da vies said that the townspeople favoured the erection of a higher standard sehcol, but they seriously doubted if tlooy would counteaianco a scheme whioh would iitean such enonnous expenditure. rlSie Cli Iaixmao questioned the advisability of incurring osucili a large expenditure with- out fi-stt consulting tlie ratepayers oi the town. Tli-a Secretary allowed that in the higher standards of the Council the non-pro- vid-cd schools there were at the present moment 316 children, while tie accommoda- tion proposed in the new seihools only 320. The committee's experience was that with every school wliieth they had built during the l.a.t five years they had been obliged to enlarge A, and enia.j'gemente wlere immeasurably more expensive than new buildings. Mr Issaid Davies confessed that when lie ad vocated the oe-rection of the school he thougihft that by having the building dose to the Oounty School they would be able to sa,ve expense by utilising the laboratory, the cooking-room, and the gymnasium of too latter school. After further discussion it was resolved to consult (the Caria, arvon Town Council before proceeding further witih the scheme. PLANS OF THE LLANDUDNO SCHOOL. On the mosfckm of Mr Ralph Fishier it was also agreed that the plans of the proposed higher standard school at Llandudno should ba completed in time for the County Council 01l the 22nd iii-sit. ,.1:>FAEN SCHOOL ACCOMMODATION. With regard to the provision of additional school accommodation at Lly&faen the com- mittee agreed that instead of building a school at Penmaenrhos for the children who Live in that part of Carnarvonshire :iihe school should be sufficiently large to aococLate tihe younger children residing in that part and the older children from the whole of the parish.
