AN IMPUDENT THIEF. [ ■ ■■■ I Railway Passes Stolen From I Recruiting Office. j „ At Aberavon Borough Police Court on Thursday, Jerome Murphy, a young man recently employed at the Port Talbot Steel Works, was charged with stealing four Army mil-way warrants, valued 4d., the property of the King, from the Aber- avon Recruiting Ofiicer. Superintendent Ben Evans said that prisoner had twice enlisted. He first of all joined the Welsh Fusiliers, and deserted, and afterwards joined the Royal Field Artillery. John Lake, recruiting clerk, said ho missed the warrants, and gave informa- tion to the police. The warrants had been torn out, of the book. Ei-nest W. Mew I.l)ort Talbot G.W.R. booking clerk) said that on the 30th ult. prisoner presented a warrant made out from Port Talbot to Queenstown. P.S. McGovern deposed to arresting the prisoner, who replied, I stole then) myself. I kept one and tore the other up." Ile foujid one warrant in prisoner's boot. ABERAVQH imm I Justices Refuse to Alter New Closing Order. The annual Licensing Sessions of the Aberavon Borough were held on Thurs- day, the Mayor (Mr. W. J. Williams, J.P.), presiding. Police Superintendent Ben Evans, in his annual said there were with- in the boroujfh 24 ale houses, hve beter houses( on), two beer houses (off), and two wine licenses (off). No re- port had been received against a single licensee. There were 87 proceed- ing for drunkojmess during the year, which was a decrease of 17 a-3 compared with the previous year. The Mayor intimated that all licenses would be renewed, with the exca-, pticni of Brain's (off license) stores, which would be' served with the usual notices. Mr. Lewis M. Thomas, on behalf of the Licensed Victuallers' Associat' on askeu the justices to reconsider their decision to close the licenced houses at 10 o'clock as had been done in other towns. Mr. Chas. Jones (magistrate): Our de- cision was to have the houses closed at la o'clock during the war and a month I afterwards, and therefore we cannot I alter it.

--,--_U-"I LIGHTING OF HAFOD.…
-_U LIGHTING OF HAFOD. Swansea, Tramways and Electric Light-' ing Committee met on Thursday, Col. Sin- clair presiding. On a consideration of the engineer's report, Mr. Devonald asked when they were likely to have electric light in Hafod. He pointed out that a promise had been made to that effect. Mr. Burr, electrical engineer, remarked that if the prospects were good, he would recommend the extension. But inquiries in Manselton had not proved very fruit- ful. It was agreed that the Hafod members should meet the electrical engineer, and talk things over.
