POLICE COURT SCENE. EVASIVE LLANDRINDOD MAN SEN7 TO PinSuN. David Davies, of Llandrindod Wells, who was received m custody on Wednesday from the Cardiff police, was yesterday committed for one monh's I hard labour at Llandrindod Wells Po ;ice Court for deserting his wife and children, and leaving them chargeable to the Union. Defendant's wsife, who fell in a faint at the close of her evidence, said she had received nothing from him since Jast March, and he had been going to laJyliyn to see another woman. She denied that she told him to save up money and go to Australia, and also that she caused him to lDOe his job at I Treharris through writing to the manager. She admitted cutting up three pairs of his trousers when she went to see him at Treharris, because she was in such a temper about the other woman. Defendant said it was entirely his wife's fault, and that he had offered to keep her with him at Treharris, or to pay her 10s. a week. The Chairman told Davies they were sorry to see him in that position, but frc had evaded his wife and the police for a long time, and now they had caught him they could not let him off with le3S than a month's hard labour

Tnat they are a fine sporting Side cannot for a moment be doubted. 'ihey liave a gaiasy of gocti material fore and aft, and on the run of the play in their Swansea match they were unlucky to lose by aa much as 13 points. It is worth wtule recalling that after losin;, to Swansea the Tigers went down rather badly before Aberavon on the following Monday. I PRACTICALLY THE SAME SIDE. Of a retiring disposition ho prefers olub footbaLl to international honours, and he is anxious to help Leicester against, Swansea. He is spoken of as one of the best front rank forwards in the country. That being so. England's loes will be [,eiceeter's gain, in weighing up the chances if. has of course to be taken into account that Leicester at home are a very much more formidable lot than they are when they happen to be playing in vVales. They are j rut" aAI likely to heat SAansea as any other team figuring in the list. Personally, however, I am pretty con- fident that t.he Whites will not only beat them but also Northampton on Monday. SUCCESSFUL TOURISTS _1 For awansea are tne moet guecessiui touring side in the British Isles. English and Scottish tea.me come to Wales and almost invariably return beaten. The All Whites on the other hand can play two strenuous matches inside three' days and win both. Only once have they loat twice on tour. That was at Plymouth, the season betore last when first, the Albion and then Plymouth beat them. With Edgar Morgan and the Rev. Alban Davies back again the pack promises to be at fuli siren giii against Leicester There can be no doubt about, it that these two players were badly missed at Newport, last Saturday week. in order to beat Leicester the Swansea for- wards will have to work conscientiously wi.hout any regard for brilliancy in the open. The role of skirmisher can safely be left to Tom Wiliams. The rest must scrum- mage, and scrummage with a whole hearted determination to get the ball out to the backs. Leicester will be the faster, team, but they ought not to beat us for cl.ern, My own idea is that Swansea c l evernecus. • will win by about a try. For the reet let us hope that the game will be as good as the last one. At Northampton Llanelly should give us Borne idea as to how the Whites are likely to shape against the Cobblers' on the Monday. TRIP TO THE RHONDDA. On Saturday Aberavon will play their second fixture of the season with LlWyny- pia, at Llwynypia. and they will be able to take up a full side, as far as can be seen at present. When the teams met earlier in the season at Aberavon the Afonites won by three tries to a penalty goal. Last season Aberavon won both fixtlires-,one by three points and the other by 12. It is expected that E. Goodman, the new centre three- quarter. will make his debut for the Afon- ites. He is an old Penarth and Leicester player. The team will be selected from the following, Aberavon Back, Johnny ua\iee; three-quarters, Jimmy Donovan icapt.), E. B. Rees, E. Goodman, Ivor Hop- kins, and W. H. After their magnificent display on Satur- day last against, Cardiff Corinthians there in very little doubt but that the Swans Reserves have restored themselves to favour in the eyes of local Socceritee. The game was undoubtedly one of the finest seen on the Vetch Field this season, and the result was no mean accomplishment, nor was there the semblance of a fluke in H. as with a little luck at least three more goals would have !>een put to the credit of the Swans. On Saturday Morriston will pay a,, visit, and there is likely to be the record crowd of the. season to watch this encoun- ter. The lmplaters have been showing magnificent form for some weeks past, and no doubt will make every effort to put paid to their opponents account. The Reserves have, however. only to reproduce their last Saturday's form to make the result a satis- factory one. A strong eide will take the field, as will he eeen from the following:- \1, David; Arthur Savage and Ernest Thissen; Stan Danes, Percy B. Jones, and J(!iH6 iCardiil); Saody, Thos. Brazell. W. T. Dany- graig are determined to avenge the defeat received earlier ia the season, and as both sides have selected strong fifteens, providing the day i,s fine, a good game will be seen. Daitygraig require all the help they can get, and i" is to be noped they will have a good attendance, seeing that the two premier teams are away. The following will repre- sent Danygraig —Back, J. They travel together to-night to London hy the 11.40 excursion train, where, after spending some hours. the Rugbyites will entrain for Northampton, while the Scarlets will proceed to Southend. The Scarlets had no match with Northamp- ton last season, hut on the occasion of their ,i8it in 1911 wen defeated by 14 points to 3. Ir, the return match, although .LfaneUy had some )ia-vy engagements in the Christmas holidays, they avengerl their defeat by de- feating the "Cobblers" by six points to five. Lianelly in 1910 defeated Northampton twice, on the first, occasion by a 'dropped goal and on the second occasion by a try. What will the Scarlets do to-morrow. They I' will have to give of their beet if they mean to avert defeat. BAILIFF'S SUSPENSION. I Th", Soccerites, it will be remembered. brought about a sensational lotory the other day by beating Southend in a South- ern Jjeague encounter. A? a result of an unfortunate incident in that match. Bailiff, Llanelly's international goalie. who is ad- mittedly the best player in the tMm. was ordered off, and has since been suspended for a fortnight. As a result, BailiH will not be available for to-morrow, and LlanplJy's chances will thereby be affected. Still, Lian- ellv may be relied upon to fight their hard- est against the Southenders. Both games will, no doubt, he worth seeing. I HOCKEY. Tne disbanding of the Plymouth Club (temporarily, let us hope) haf, deprived the All Blacks of what is generally looked upon as a most enjoyaole tour. In place of the Plymouth fixture thus fallen through, the Neath Committee have arranged for Tre- orky to visit the Gnoll to-morrow. The visitors it re by no mea n. in th efiret flight of South Wales teams, hnt an interesting game will probably result. SHEEP WORRYING. I TROUBLES OF A FARMER AT RESOLVEN. A farmer named Morgan J. Rees, of Resolven, told the -Neatli magistrates on Friday that dogs had destroyed 00 sheen which belonged to him and that on the 7th of January he reported having seen a cross-bred sheep dog beiong ng co John James, 12, Alary- street, &ven Sisters, in his meadow with the sheep. Tie result was that James was summoned for not keeping his dog under control. P.S. Morgan said he acconipanied the last witness to defendant's house, where they found a dog tied to the leg of a table in the float room. Defend- ant expressed his sorrow and said he would destroy the dog, but that he was too poor to pay any damages. In reply to the Cierk, P.S. Morgan said the (log had since been destroyed. .No order was made.

QUESTION DEFERRED. For the purpose of obtaining a further supply of water for the Car- marthen district, Mr. Kyle, a water, engineering expert—who was engaged some time ago by the Carmarthen Town Council to carry out boring operations at Cwmtawei, which is 011 the estate of the Corporation—has submitted a re- port stating that a depth of 50 feet had been reached. He had made al thorough test of the yield of water from the bore. and found that by pumping they could get constantly and without Huctuation 10 to 12 gallons per minute. This quantity had quite come up to his expectation. At a private meeting of the Council it was decided to defer the considera- j tion of the report until next August, i
