Munificent Gifts.— WE recently reported that James Knowles, l,-q E;igley Bank, iicnr Bolton, had presented to the National Lifeboat Institution £:!OO. to enable it to plant an additional ¡¡rebollt on the Lancashire coast, The institution has decided on placviif? rthe life. boat at Southport.. We have now the satisfaction to on- nounce that two benevolent ladies, the Misses Browne, of Toxteth Park, Liverpool, have also given the same valuable Society R200, to plate a lifeboat at Llandudno, which they wish to lie called the" Sisters' Memorial," in memory of a depart d sister. Local Committees have been org-anised inconnection with the Iustitution. at Soutlipo t and Llandudno, for the management of the lifeboats; and tenders are now being obtained for build- ing commodious and substantial bouses from designs far. nished by the Parent Institution, for keeping the life. b nits, their stores, and transporting carriages. The life- b Jats llill each be 32 feet long, rowing twelve oars. Each boathouse is expected to cost £ 203 The local committees fet 1 e;,y reluctant in asking the National Lifeboat Institution to coutiibute from its limited gene. ral funds towi r ls the cost of boathbnses, which will be chiefly ava l il 1' for the great mart of shipping on the west cOllst-1 i erpool. With upwards of lOlJ lifeboats- under its man: g ment, each of which requiring on an average J30 a year to keep in an efficient slate, the National Lifeboat Institution must have large and con. tinned demands on its Final! permanent income. Th; Ucal committees at Southport and Llandudno are natu. rally desirous to have the credit of raising locally the ex- pense at least of the hoathouses, leaving the institution to provide the transporting curriage, which will pro. bably cost E200 more. They, therefore, confidently ap- peal to the ric 1 counties of Lancashire and Cheshire, and to North Wales, to help them in this good work. Contr.b itions are received by Capt. Barton, B.N., honor, ry secretary, Southport; John Williams, Esq, bono a y secretary, Bodalon, L'andudno; R c'i. Lewis, Esq, secretary of the National Lifeboat Institution, 14, John-street, Adclphi, London;vand by ail the bankers n this town. Affiiay with POACIIF.,its.-A drta Ifill and fatal af- fray with poachers t iok p'ace between 4 an 5 o'clt c c: on Sunday morning last, at Bryneisteddfod, near Llan- sant/fr.iitl-G an-Conwy, in which one of five poachers was killed. The collision and affray took place aa fol- lows Two of the keepers of the Venerable Archdea- con. One of the po.ieluTs was seen t ) place a net by a -ate, in which a hare was immediately caught. The keepers tlell rushed upon them, when a terrible light took place, -and somehow or other in the struggle a gun exploded, and the contents e itered he body of Owen Huberts, one of the poachers, which must have, in the opinion 01 t'te surgeon at the inquest, caused instant death. About 6 o'c ock the same morning, the dead Ik dy was found by the P.O. s:ati iited at Llansantlfraid 0 the roael ,ide, with a cap covering its face. I CONWAY. I
CONWAY. IRktui.n OF Tn. Rev. M. Morgan fhom the CO- TlSNT.-OO F?id?,y evening the 5th inst" the neigh- bourhood of the railway station, and thence to the vicarage, was the scene of unusal vivacity. For some time before the arrival of the train by which the rev. gentleman.and his lady were expected, the streets in the vicinity of the station had been crowd- ed with people, who were eager for the opportunity to display their gladness on the safe return of their worthy pastor fiom his continental tour. The chil- dren of the National and Infant Schools, who were all neatly d. e8sed, and carried nosegays and fla" were arranged in rows on each side of the road from the s ation to the vicarage. The schools, the church tower, and other buildings in various parts of the town were adorned with flag. &c-, and over the road, in the immediate vicinity of the vicarage was an arch, which was tastefuUy decorated with evei- greens and lfoweis, and bore, in conspicuous charac- ter, the inscription Welcome Home." About six o'clock the train arrived, and the rev. gentleman and his lady, who evidently had not anticipated such a reception, stepped forward amid the crowd who made way for "their passage and cheered them en- thusiastically. The school children, who closed in after them, followed in procession 6S far as the vic- arage, where they halted and sang at the tops of their little voices Home sweet home." Guns were fired at intervals during the evening, the church bells were rung, bon-fires were kindled here and there in the suburbs, and several houses were illumi- nated. The esteem-in which our worthy vicr and his family are held by the inbitants of l (inwaygeiier. all)', has been openly signified in thi. manner more i j than once before t and by no means may the*e| public demonstrations of the affection of thepeo je for their pastor be said to be uncaned for o slIper. ftuous; the conciliating disposition wb'.?n manifefts manifeits itself in self-denial, atil the feeling which is develop- ed in the exercise of every Christian virtue deserve, j we opine, at least such occasional marks of app-evi- atioli.

LLANDUDNO. Haht Enteiit^inment.—Mr. T. D. Morris, the celebrated Welsh Haipist, ?ve amormngand evening concert at the Infant School R"om, on Friday last, to a very fashionable audience. Mr. Moms'f) ex qms?e!-ty)t: of ))))?in?reHfCt5)!eat credit on himself, his ?)?stft)y exertion o,, th?,t tri,,g?d instru- ment (the harp) brought forth the highest plaudits. It is much to he regretted, that it is not now as in former times, when the mellow sound of that ancient lyre re- sounded within the halls of old Cambria. Mr. Morris apologised fo the audience for the non-attendance of the comet player, who had disappointed him.
