CLEAN HAIR. Yon have removed a cause of mueh trouble to me. Since my children hare been going to school, I have suffered untold misery on account of their heads. Do what I may, I could not keep them clean. I have cried myself to sleep at nights with the annoyance, but now I use HAGON'S CLEANS** once a aeak-after their bath, and dip the brush in it when I dress their hair daily. There has been no more trouble, aud their hair is glossy and strong." My little girl has very fair hair, and was much troubled with nits, Ac., but since UBING HAGON S CLKANSER 1 have never seen foTelJT liV* *tOCk' *nd her hair i8 GOLDEN HAIR. "I have used HAGON'S CLEANSEKCO*. stantly for my girls, and they now have beautiful goldea hair in such great aban. dauce t¡,at strangers stop in the street to Hire them." SCRAGGY HAIR. I have three children-two girls and a toy. The boy has strong, healthy hair always, but the two girls' hair used to come out coombsfull at a time, and what they kept was scraggy and weak. I have used HAGON H CLEANSER for six months now and their hair is much longer, stronger, and brighter. I could hardly have hoped for such success." MOTHERS. have wittfn the above in their letters to me. One says she would rather pay a sovereign a bottle than be compelled to do without HAO',N'g CLEANSKR now. The cost is Sixpence per bottle, by post tor 9d, or two bottlfs by post for Is 4d from the maker. Address MR HAGON, CHEMIST, CAitDIlPF- but most Chemists sell HAGON'S CLEANSER.' THE above Council have an opportunity of -L PURCHASING some LAND near Beggar's Well, Barry, which could be used to provide PERMANENT ALLOTMENTS. Almost all the Publie Allotments in the town of Barry at the present time are held on a short lease or yearly agreement, and as the town grows in size, and the land is required for building purposes, the Allot- menta will have to be given up. The District Council have for some time been desirous of secur- ing Permanent Allotments, and have now before them a favourable offer for the SALE of FREE- HOLD LAND close to Beggar's Well. The various Allotmeat Acts require that the rent received from Allotments shall be sufficient to cover all the outgoings, and the District Council are not authorised to devote any portion of the money received from the rates to the Provision or Maintenance of Allotments. The cheapest price at which the Council can purchase this land will necessitate the price of the Allotments on such land being raited to Is per perch, in order to pay the interest en the purchase money. Under these circumstances the Council are desirous of reeeiving applications from those who are prepared to take land for Allotment purposes at Beggar's Well at a rent of la per perch. If a sufficient number of applications are received to justify the Council proceeding with the purchase of the land, they propose to do so. If, however, sufficient applications are not received, the Council will not feel justified in purchasing the land. Forms of application can be obtained at the Surveyor's Office, Holton-road, Barry Dock, and should be sent to me on or before WEDNESDAY, the 21st March, 1900. J. ARTHUR, HUGHES, CLERK. COMBATANTS IN THE ARENA,
COMBATANTS IN THE ARENA, INTEREST deepens with the approach of the contests for municipal honours that are inevitable in the Barry district. Candi- dates, after all, are more prolific than anticipations portended. From every ward, with perhaps one exception, the noise of electioneering artillery is heard. Prepara- tions for action are in an advanced state j the bona fide working men (whatever the term implies) are all seeking the suffrages of the electors to get more work placed upon their shoulders, in payment for which they require nothing more than thA -8 « 11 j u& being called "representatives." Ratepayers at such times as these may well ponder on the solemnity and the humour of the occasion in turn, for both elements are never wanting in an election Serious questions of unreasonable expenditure, unwise actions and unwarrantable liberty with public rights should occupy the attention of the burgess. This is the day of reckoning—the appointed time for knowing something of the past, justifying the present, and expecting better things for the future, if the latter can be shown to be possible. In both the-North and East Wards an abundance of candidates will, probably, contest each of the seats. It is now known definitely that Dr. Treharne will again come forward. Those in authority say he will; and the position is interesting with Messrs Arthur Seiton and B. G. Davies all claiming to be best able to serve its interests. In thp. Worth W. u Mr John Spargo is the Trades Council nominee against Dr O'Donnell, and here a pretty little family arrangement, in which moral dealing rather than strict legal tech- nique is urged by the latter, will in itself be of sufficient interest, while Mr Evan Bennett has already issued his address as the third aspirant. An effort towards securing the pretence of Mr James Cruise in the contest was at first unavailing, that gentleman not having given" aye or c. nay to a depute tion that waited upon him early this week. °n Wednesday night he ha(J decided „ lnt v^r CounciUor Person will be opposed by Mr Sam Griffiths. This is now itlirr 88 absolute!f certain, while s declared m whispers that Mr Pursell Counc il80 t anotherut0 eDt*r the lists, ouncillor Jose slumbers in gecurit .Q possession of the South Ward. In that Place we know not what a day bringeth forth, and while many of the other municipal mountains may only bring forth a mouse, the smallest begining may yet achieve the best result in the direction of finding candidates. Verily, there are lively tizun ahftd I
