LLANRWST. ANIMATED PICTURES. This week the Foretanbleau International Cinematcgraiplh Co. give an exhibition of a.nima.ted pictures at the Concert Hall. THE NEW YEAR.—The advent of the New Year was heralded in a joyous manner. A large crowd assembled in the Square, and parsed the time in flinging hymns, and the boll àf the Parish Church rung the Old Year out, and the New Year in. Singing was kept up until long after one o'clock in the morning. OONCERT. -On New Year's Eve a. concert was held in the Church House, the proceeds being dervoted to defraying the expense of fur- nishing the reading-room and library in the Town Hall. The audience, though not large, fully appreciated bhe excellent pnograanme. The artwtee included Messrs L. M. Hughes, T. Met- calfe, R. Roberts, Miss Agnes Evans, Miss Thomas, Miss Jones, and Mr T. Fletcher Hughes,' with his gramophone. There was also a challenge solo cotmpotition, in which a good number took part. The first prize was awarded to Mim A. J. Jones, liana-wet, late of Trefriw. Later on in the evening, a wa/tchnight was held and practically the same artistes appeared. CRICCIETH. THE LATE MR W. CAER JONES.-The funeral of the late Mr W. Caer Jones, solicitor, took plaoe on Monday, and was attended by nearest relativeq and friends, the interment be- ing at the cemetery. Mr Caer Jones, who was very popular in South Carnarvonshire, had his early education at Llanystumdwy Churoh School, ba, ing as a sohool churn his oousin, Mr D. Lloyd George, M.P. For a time he worked on his father's farm (Caerdyni). Afterwards he be- came an inspector of nuisance under the old Local Board of Health. When about 30 years old he entered the offioe of his cousin, and was admitted a solioitor. He was. managing clerk for Messrs Lloyd George a.nd George at Port- madoo up to the time he was taken ill many months ago. In private life he was a most interesting conversationalist, having a store of humorous stories and amusing incidents at his command. He was unmarried, and was in his 45th year.

Mr Evan Jones, of Upper Colwyn Bay, shared the first prize in the chief recitation composition at Conway on Cbristmoa Day. FANCY DRESS BALL.—On Tuesday even- ing, by kind permission of Miss Thorpe (the manageress), the employees of toe Colwyn Bay Hotel held their annual dance. The arrange- ments this year took the form of a fancy dress ball, and aibouit 80 engaged in the proceedings. Not only did the employees and tneir numerous friends do so, but the visitors staying in the hotel entered into the spirit of the thing with a whole-heartedn-ess which greatly enhanced the evening's enjoyment. Dancing commenced at ten pm-, and was continued until five a.m., with an interval for refreshments. At midnight the "merrymakers" joined hands, sang ".tor Auld Lang Syne," and heartily wished each Other the compliments of the season. Prizes were awarded for the dr, and so exception- Say good were these that great difficulty was experienced in choosing the winner. Eventually Afiss O'Neill as "Folly" was declared the winner ei the ladies' prize. The first prize for a comedy dress was gained by Mr Torn Coudron ("Indian Fakir"), whilst consolation prizes were awarded to Mr A. Ashton ("Charley's Aunt"), and Mr J. leacth ("Ally Sloper"). SEASONABLE.-On Friday afternoon, at the Village Hall, St. George, Lady FIorentia. Hughes, of Kintnel, and Miss Charlton distri- buted over llOOlbs. of beef amongst the em- ployees and cottagers on the Kinmel Estate. The beef was from bullocks fed by Mr Parry, Faenol Farm, Abergele. RASPBERRIES IN DECEMBER-The other week, Mr J. Herbert Roberts. M.P., and his torn were walking in the garden at Bryngwen- iMH, when Mr Smith, the head gardener iid j them by offering to show them some raspberries growing in the open. This he did, and the pa.rty ga-thered a good handful. Strawberries have been growing in the open in abundanoe at Bryngwenallt until last week. THE MARRIAGE took place at St. Mich- ael's Church, Abergele, on Christmas Day, of Mias Jane Evans, fifth daughter of Mrs John Evans, and the late Mr John Evans, of Blaen- i au Cottage, Pensarn, to Mr T. J. Thomas, of Valley, Anglesey. The Rev. T. Jones officiated. The beet man was Mr John Evans, brother of the bride, and the bridesmaid, Mrs Jones, sister of bride.

On Christmas Day, "Plygain" was held at 6 a.m. The Rector said the service, and de- livered a short address on the Festival of Christ- mas. Carols were sung by parties conducted by Mr Ed. Henry Hughes, Mr T. E. Evans, Mr O. Jones, and Mr Josea. The carols were very well rendered, and were much appreciated by the congregation. The Church was crowded by peo- ple from far and near. A collection was made in aid of the Cottage Hospital. At 11 a.m., there was am English service with sermon, and a. celebration of the Holy Communion.

Gramophone selections were also given by Mr B. Pullan. DIED IN CANADA.—Much sympathy is extended to the family at the Farm Penbedr, Bettweycoed, on the death of their eon, Robert, in Hull, Canada. The deoeased left this coun- try ten weeks ago to enter a bank, but on the 20th of last month he was taken ill with diph- theria, and died in nine days. The news was cabled to Mr W'hite Phillips, solicitor, Festiniog, in whose employ he was. OBITUARY.—The death took place to-day week of Mr Elias Owen, Orme View, Menai Bridge, at the ripe age of 81. Mr Owen was a native of Bettwsycoed, being a near relative of the well-known preacher, the Rev. Cadwa-ladr Owen, of Dolyddelen, and settled in Menai Bridge forty-five years ago, having previously resided for owne years in Bangor. On Saturday night the wife of a well-known tradesman in Hign-st. met with a serious accident. She proceeded to the General Po.st Office to post a letter, but on her way back every light in the stloot was sud- denly extmguisiied, and the mght being dark it was impossible to see acioss tne street. The re suit of this was that in her anxiety to get across the street alie struck h-er foronead against the pillar of a verandah, and was stunned. tlc-r forahead was so badly cut that a surgeon had to stitch the wound. Eyion Lloyd and other justices, Charles Henry Butcnford, a labourer, pleaded not S^ilty to a cha ge of assaulting his wile, Mary Butoh- ford, at 60 Victoria-road. Complainant said that defendant had been rough-using her. On his return to her house on Monday he struck her on tho back of the head with his hand, but fortunately did not do any harm. Thomas, Trefriw, formed a deputation from the Vale of Conway Monthly Mootmg, and waiied upon the members of the Talybont C.M. Chapel to take their voice on the question of forming an English oauic at Porthllwyd. Robert Roberts, Penrhoegarnedd, summoned for feeing drunk in High-street, on Chris fc.is night, denied the charge, and on his behah l.ir Humphrey Jones, 9, West End, stated that he was capable of taking charge of his mule and car. The case w adjourned. Hugh Roberts, Menai Bridge, was summoned by P.C. J. R. Williams (72) for being drunk whilst in oharge of a horse and car, the defen- dant also denying the ohaige. Supt. Harris said that the de/endant was unquestionably drunk, Mr Joseph Owen, architect, Menai Bridge, said that he was a passenger in the carriage driven by the defendant, who was perfectly sober whilst he was with him. A seasonable progreumine was submitted at tho organ recital given by Dr. Roland Rogers, a the Cathedral, on Monday night, when there was again a. large attendanoe, the edifice being comfortably full. The Cathedral organist was assiijted by the choir of the Cathedral, who ren- dered, in addition to several carols, the anthem "Lovely appear o'er the mountains," from Gounod's "Redemption," and the chorus "Halle- lujah to the Fatner," from "The Mount of Olives" (Beethoven), the la-tter being excellently sung. Dr Rogers gave a magnifioent interpretation of Mendelssohn's "Son and Stranger" overture, which was written óy the great composer when quito a buy, to celebrate 11.16 return .home aftor an absence for a. short period. The piece brought into Prominence the biiet features of the great organ, and also showed the manipulative skill of tho roc Liu 1 list. A lino performance was also given of Elgar's well-known "Pomp and Circum- stance" march, and Dr. Rogers exquisitely played a pastorale, introducing the old tune "Adeste Fideles," from his own pen. The collection was given to the Cathedral Choir.
