SALE OF WORK AT OLD COLWYN. SCHOOLS AND ASSEMBLY ROOM IMPROVEMENT. rA two days' sale of work and Christmas Tree was opened in tihe Assembly Rooms, Old Colwyn, on Tuesday, in the presence of a large attend- ance. In the unavoidable absence of the Vicar, who was indisposed, the Rev. LI. A. Richards presided, and .n opening he explained Chat the objects of the Bale were to wips off the debt incurred on the alterations to the Assembly Room, and a snudl debt owing m connection with the National Schools. When the contract was made for the former, the amount stated was £ 78 but the extras had included enJarging class- rooms altering the position of a doorway, and 'windows, etc., a sum of L34 being tibus entailed. The total expenditure amounted to JB152 4s lOd. It had also been discovered tihat the roof over the cntranoe to the Assembly Rooms W60S in a very bad state, and it had to be retimbered and re-slated at an estima-ted cost of £10. Including the decorating of the room, the totaJ for the Assembly Rooms alone amounted to about L150. In connection with the National Sclhools he found they owed the bank L17 10s. The schools cost them something every year, because they had to look after the fabric, the playground, walls, etc. This year a new water main had been laid, and repairs had included a new floor and grates at the Infants' School. The authori- ties came down very often upon them for things which the managers themselves did not think iiecessaiV, but for which they had to pay. The total cost upon the schools practically reached £170. In Dassintr he mentionorl th:1.t. the archi- tect for the Assembly Rooms alteration had been Mr W. A. Earp, and the contractors Mr Yvm. Roberts, of Old Colwyn. They had a great deal of money to. raise, but he hoped through the agency of the sale to do much to wipe off the debt. He then introduced Mrs Prior, of Bar- berry Hill, who had kindly consented to open the proceedings. Mrs Prior said it afforded her the greatest pleasure to accede to the request of the Vioar to open the hazaar, and deeply regretted that he was unable to be present. She hoped they would all do their best to clear off the debt on the Parisih Room. She was quite surprised to flee the difference that 1j-u< been wrought in the room, which was now worthy of Old ColWyn. She declared the proceedings open., and hoped the sale would be a success (applause). Rev. LI. A. Richards proposed, and Mr R. T. Whitley seconded a hearty vote of thanks -to Mrs Prior for her kindness in opening the sale, which was carried unanimously. LIST OF STALLHOLDERS. The stalls, which had been beautifully deoo- "Tated, were attended to by the following: — St Catherine's Stall: Mrs Sanderson, Mrs Ilannaih, assisted by Mrs Lewis, Mrs Lloyd, Miss Hughes, Miss Gwcn. Jones, Miss Ethel Sanderson. Mrs Richards' Stall, assisted by the Misses Pendlebury, Mi&s Winnie Pryce Jones. Miss Upton's Stall, assisted bkl Misses Fair- clough, Misses Bolton, Miss Jenkinson. Cardigan Williams, and collections made on behalf of the Society for the Propaga- tion of the Gospel in foreign parts. Special week night services are being held during Advent, the preachers on the 1st and 10th inst., respectively, being the Rev. David Pryce, rector of Cae'r Rhun, and the Rev. D. C. Davies, curate of Llan- rwst. The attendance on both occasions was most satisfactory. THE RECTORY.—The posting of the notice of the collation to the living of the Rev.
