CORRIS. PERSONAL.—Mr J. R. Dix, the well-known and popular manager of the Corris narrow gauge rail- way, is the subject of an interesting biographical sketch in the last number of Papur Pawb." TEMPERANCE FESTIVAL.—The annual temper- ance festival for this district, which has been held regularly for the past 60 years, took place on Thurs- day last (Ascension Day). The meetings were ably presided over by Mr D. Ifor Jones, the Post Office. The officiating ministers were the Revs Hugh Jones, Bangor, Peter Williams (Pedr Hir), Bootle, and Edmund Griffiths, Liverpool. The proceedings proved a complete success, and it was freely ex- pressed that this year's festival surpassed all its predecessors. At five o'clock the children of the different churches in the neighbourhood formed into one large procession, carrying flags and banners and led by the amalgamated brass bands of Aberllefenni and Corris, marched through all the streets of the town, returning to Rehoboth chapel for the evening meeting. At this meeting a resolution was passed urging on the Government to pass during the present session of Parliament the measure to prohibit the sale of intoxicating drinks to children under 16 years of age, Sunday closing in Monmouthshire, and also to amend the present law for Sunday closing in Wales. It. was also de- cided to send copies of the resolution to Lord Salisbury, Mr Balfour, and Mr O. M. Edwards. It was also resolved that a congratulatory telegram be forwarded to her Majesty the Queen on the attainment of her 81st birthday. i I J&.
